waiting for the off
After a 17 hour train journey on the rather grandly named Caladonian Sleeper , i arrived in Thurso , i had pre booked a taxi mini bus to transfer me to JOG, as i didn't fancy an additional 20 miles ! .On the train I had met up with a couple of lads also soloing the jogle albeit on differing routes they agreed that the taxi was a good idea .We arrived in JOG at approx 3.30 pm and after a few pics round the sign post (i refused to pay the £10 quid for an official pic).We all set off , this was a bonus as any miles today were "extras" as my ride was scheduled for Good Friday. The weather was great ..a bit blowy but warm , sunny and clear , some of the early rises made my pulse increase and although i was tired from the journey, i was excited and soon we ..all 3 of us arrived in Wick .We stopped at the bridge in the town centre to take a few pictures .I soon became aware that a rather drunk Johnny Vegas lookalike was muttering some obceneties in our direction .I turned to Will and Matt and said I was ready (meaning to leave )Johnny Vegas then shouted "your ready for F**K all"pal, we sped off as he tried to swing a punch....welcome to Scotland ! :D
After a couple of hours we arrived in Dunbeath .. a tiny coastal hamlet with a great campsite , we pitched in and then went over to the dodgy looking pub /restaurant over the road ...but wow inside it was lovely , clean , good menu , nice bar and incredible views .
Dunbeath campsite is run by Keith and Rhona , they sorted us out with a fine breakfast for a fiver and although the purpose built new shower block was days from opening , we were all allowed to shower in the B And B. highly recommend staying here.
