Jane Austen's House (Village of Alton)Jane Austen's House (Village of Alton)Jane Austen's House (Village of Alton)

Jane Austen spent the last eight years of her life here at Chawton from 1809 - 1817), where she wrote Mansfield Park, Emma and Persuasion.
Yes, the weather has warmed up this past week or so - low to mid 20's and sunny. Great part of the world to be when the weather is good.

We took our first road trip around the UK on the first weekend of May - 7 months after arriving... Headed down to Chawton and visited Jane Austen's house, where she wrote the likes of Emma etc. Then moseyed on over to Winchester where King Arthur's round table resides (although its thought to be a fake crafted for Edward I around 1250). Final stop of the day was Stonehenge - pretty amazing, not as commercial as people would have you believe.

Spent the night in a quaint little english roadhouse, circa 1400's, in Salisbury. Very old, so much so that I had to duck under a lot of the doorways as they were built for the smaller stature man of some 600 years past.

On the return leg we visited Longleat Estate for the day. Longleat being a very old estate associated with the Marquis of Bath - it has its own safari park that we were able to drive through (roaming lions, rhinos, giraffes etc) and the biggest hedge maze in England - very cool, I ran around like a kid for ages, much to Saz's annoyance 😊

Mentions nothing about her being a writer!
