ROSLIN through SCOTLAND to CARLISLE
I hit a blank with Scotland in general, so I'm going to give you some homework to do. See if you can find stuff to do there! I found this blog, which might help with Edinburgh http://www.frommers.com/cgi-bin/WebX?128@@.eedcdcb
and I think Braveheart was filmed in STIRLING, an hour west of Edinburgh. Mishi lives in Ballachulish (3h 45min northwest of Roslin). Also think William Wallace, and Bonnie Prince Charlie who was James VII of Scotland. Pink is playing at Edinburgh Castle on the 15th, Roo, but I think its sold out.
If you google the destination and click on 'maps' it will take you there. Then select 'To here' and type in the place you start from, you will get an idea of routes and distances. There are route planning websites too, if you find they help.

I'll find accommodation, unless we stay with Mish. Carlisle might be a good place to sleep on our way back down to the Lake District.

CARLISLE to PARTINGTON
Via the LAKE DISTRICT
Hill Top farm (1 hour from Carlisle), where Beatrix Potter wrote her stories (http://www.visitcumbria.com/amb/hilltop.htm)
4mins south is the Beatrix Potter Gallery in Hawkshead (http://www.visitcumbria.com/amb/bpgall.htm) her husbands office, now her art gallery.
Or see The World Of Beatrix Potter (http://www.visitcumbria.com/amb/bpotwld.htm) on the other side of the lake

LIVERPOOL (about 2 hours south of the Lake District)
Visit Beatles Museum (http://visitbeatlesliverpool.com/attraction_bs.htm)
Find Grandpa Winter's old home

Liverpool to PARTINGTON, near Manchester (about 45mins)
Visit the Kennedy's. I don't think they will have anywhere for us to sleep.
I will look for accommodation for us in Manchester.
