Stonehenge, Salisbury & Winchester

July 12th 2007 Today we started very early. We had a private access tour at Stonehenge at 6:15 am, so we left the hotel at 5am. And it was a very dreary morning, with rain on and off. The tour allowed us to go right into the stone circles and walk around an touch the stones - normally you can just view them from about 100 feet away. A sunny morning would have been nice, but... it was way, way, cool.
Next was Salisbury, where we parked the car and promptly slept or tried to sleep for two hours. We went to the Salisbury Cathedral, which turned out to be everyone's favorite cathedral/church so far. Lastly, Winchester Cathedral - where, among others, Jane Austen is buried. We stopped in town at Winchester to have dinner - and we discovered Pizza Express. Doesn't sound like much, but it was really rather nice inside with many interesting choices on the menu, including a Bosco Salad! (We miss Bosco.) And, quite memorably, our waiter accidentally dumped about a half of a bottle of Coke onto Celia. It was hilarious and everyong laughed - good times.
