A big, big thank you to all of those who turned up to join us in a farewell drink at the Hairy Lemon in Halifax. It was a very good turn out despite the fact that our timing was not the best.. Little did we know that our date to commence our emigration plans had coincided with school half term and most friends were either off skiing or holidaying with the kids..
Never the less, the numbers were high, the place was packed and a good night was had by all. Apparently the food was delicious, but did not have chance to sample the delights as I was too busy trying to chat to all friends and family who were divided over the two floors as well as nipping out for the occasional cigarette and having to brave the cold winter night air, all too familiar with the good old UK.. That’s one thing that will not be missed!!
But well done to Tracey for braving the cold in a vest top just to show off her holiday tan!!
It would not have been the same had our friends and family not all come together to see us
Claire & Gordon
No mumsy demure tonight! off, there were people that we have not had chance to get together with in a while and all the old stories came out where most conversations started with ‘Do you remember when?’ or ‘its not like it use to be’ and then there were the ‘Gonna miss you’ lines where there were a few tears shed - especially when Claire W said to Ang’s mum ‘what will you do without her’ ..! trying to convince a mother that Australia is not the other side of the world and its only a days flight away.. and hey think of all the free holidays!
This must have been the first night in many years that nearly all of Ang’s family was in the same place together, including Aunty Dot! It’s a rare occasion that all the brothers and sisters are together, let alone the kids as well, so you can imagine the tears were flowing when it came to the end of the night..!
Will miss you all, so just make sure you come out to see us - and yes Sam, true to your word you did manage to make Ang cry in the end..! Wait until you come
out, we will make sure we buy a horse that is not broken, just for you!
A big thank you also to all the ‘barkisland farm possy’ that came to see us off -a good bunch of lads and lasses. We have had 3 fantastic years living next to the Haigh’s farm and have made some good friends whilst up there, David and Bev are wonderful people and both them and the girls are more like family to us than friends.
Keep an eye on the goats for us guys..!
Most people had left for the delights of the Halifax nightclubs by about midnight and we were amongst the last remaining few to leave (good old Woody’s dad & Caz stayed to the end) we were glad to go back ‘home’(home being the trusty ole Travel lodge) as by all accounts the town was ‘eventful’ after the clubs had closed..!
For us, this night was the start of our ‘escape route’ not only from the UK but more so from the Travel lodge, 3 weeks of anybody’s time spent in one room with only 5 channels on the TV, a very small bath and ‘noisy neighbors’ is
by anyone’s standards, 3 weeks too many, believe me by the time noon check out came on Sunday, our relief could be heard across Dean Clough..
We spent our last weekend in UK with the kids, Poppie, Tom and Carli and we managed to get a last trip to Manchester to get the latest DVD’s to take with us and then onto the Trafford Centre for a last minute shop.
The kids are planning to come out to see us and stay for a couple of months this summer so it wont be long until we see them all again.
Sunday was a stressful day. After checking out of our temporary home we made the necessary trips to say the goodbyes to family, quick and painful..
We had always said that we would not have anyone at the airport to see us off as it would be too difficult but in the end we had to ask Woody’s dad & Caroline if they could take half the luggage in their car as Carli’s little old Renault was nearly doing wheelies through Halifax because of the weight of the luggage!
So much for 20kg per person!!!!
Hopefully Emirates
will be sympathetic………………
