Hi Travel Lovers.
We have now moved on from Shrewsbury to our 4th house sit at Cradley near Worcester (Worcestershire) and what a lovely couple the owners are. Their home is absolutely beautiful (see photo's) and was originally built in the 1750's with a few additions over the next 260 years. Other than that, we also paid a quick visit on the way to Ludlow where we have yet another house sit in October. It doesn't get any better!!!
nce settled in at Cradley, we took the opportunity to do a mornings touring of a couple of the local heritage sites to the north. All within 15 miles. First it was Edvin Loach Old Church, Witley Court & Gardens plus the attached church ( with its beautiful interior) and then Leigh Court Barn. All spectacular in their own right, but today Witley Court takes the prize. What do you think? We decided to buy an annual pass to all English Heritage sites for 81 pound for two people (with seniors discount) and we have earned more than that back in site entry fees already and we still have 5 months touring to go!!!!
More touring took us to
the West of Cradley via Hereford and it's magnificent Cathedral. History wise, the Cathedral houses one of the 4 remaining copies of the 1217 Magna Carta and the largest stained glass window in the UK. We then headed for Longford Castle, Arthur's Stone (a crypt where it is rumoured King Arthur slew a giant) and then we went on to St Mary Madelaine’s church. We must say at this point, we visit all these places more for the Architecture and history rather than any religious reasons.
We must say it has been one hard job to try and reduce the photos taken of the last couple of days touring the Cotswolds and surrounding areas. I suppose someone has to do it!!! We just loved this area so much last time we visited the UK we decided to spend some time here again while house sitting. I.e. Places visited include Greater Malvern, Ledbury, Worcester, Broadway Tower, Stow-on-the-Wold, Sudeley Castle and Croome Estate. All just spectacular, but Stow-on-the-Wold has our blue ribbon for an overall great feeling. We must add, the price of homes around Stow-on-the-Wold "start" at around 1 million pound!!!! I must also say, my little $100 Olympus camera
I bought 5 years ago was the best investment I ever made. Very small, portable, user friendly and takes great photo's!!
The weather has been great here so we did a bit more touring down to Goodrich (beautiful little town) and it's Castle. It was what we would expect from a medieval castle over 1000 years old with its draw bridge and huge thick stone reinforced walls. Apparently it took modern gunpowder and a huge mortar (85 pounder) to eventually breach it's walls in the 16th century. After that we then visited Eastnor Castle, which is what "we" would expect of a castle, but it is classified as a "fake" castle as it is only just over 200 years old. We think it still looks great, is spectacular inside and is still being lived in and only open on Sundays. From there it was on to The Bell Inn at Bosbury for a traditional roast lunch with Turkey, Gammon, Beef and roast vegies. Yummm!
Hope you like the photos.!
