6 locks, total 126
My apologies for initially forgetting to add the photo descriptions yesterday – I have now. Also forgot to mention that the sausages we bought from the farm shop 2 days ago were absolutely delicious and we ate them to the accompaniement of the church bells from Cropredy.
Today the 5 Claydon Locks lifted us over 30' to the summit of the South Oxford Canal and an 11 mile pound (level canal – no locks). It was quite breezy in the farmland section before we went through a steeply wooded cutting that is the Fenny Compton Tunnel, except the top was removed in 1868 for whatever reason!
We headed for Fenny Compton Marina as we needed help from a boat mechanic about our leaking calorifier. This is a water tank with a coil inside through which passes the hot water from the engine – engine water cools and we get hot water from our taps. The two mechanics were great. Yes, we needed a new pressure release valve; yes, they could source one and fit it this
afternoon. Ah, non-standard pressure – might be more difficult. But it's all sorted now – they had a lengthy drive for the valve but the fitting was fairly straightforward and they charged us........ only £38, which is less than most mechanics' hourly charging rate. Amazing. Thank you very much Mitchell Narrowboats.

Good reading
Have thoroughly enjoyed your blog and the photos. Glad all is going well and that Mitchell Narrowboats didn't rip you off - we do become very cynical don't we? Scenery looks great and what a time you will have going over your diary and remembering the adventure. Hope the weather holds for you. We seemed to have finished summer here on Saturday! The longest day is not far away so be careful when the nights draw in! Take good care and loads of love Jan & Jan xx
