What to do for the best?

I was wondering if anybody could offer me some advice about my current situation. I graduated last June in 2011 and have been planning to go traveling once I graduated. I used to live in Thailand for 4 years before I came back to the UK. I guess the one thing that was keeping me going then, was I wanted to get my degree, and secondly the fact that I knew I could go away again, and that the world would still be there to explore after three years.

But that all changed after I met my current boyfriend. We have been together for about 19 months coming up 2 years in June this year. When we first met one of the things that really brought us together was the fact that we both had a passion to travel and had both travelled previously. We become close very quickly as we shared the similar outlook on life. My travel plans of going away soon become our travel plans for going away. We now live together and have decided to plan a round the world air ticket to go traveling.

It was a dream come true, but at the same time it has been hard to put all my eggs in one basket as I’m used to things going wrong when it comes to relationships. However, something a lot worse has happened recently which is having a huge impact on our relationship and life choices at the moment. We have just recently found out that his farther has liver cancer and lunch cancer. The year before he also had bowl cancer. Everything has been on hold at the moment, we were meant to go away traveling in April , however did not feel right giving the circumstances so he has asked me to wait another year until next April to go. I agreed to this and could understand his reasons why. But at the same time another year has gone by and I could not help, but think about wanting to go away. I have no real desire to stay in the UK; life here gets me down living in such a rat race and fast moving environment. I have my got finances in place and just can’t help, but think come next April we will not get to go, as I think his father is a lot worse that he wants to say. I have been doing some research and the life expediency is 6-18 months without treatment. Because his father general health is not good, they are unable to carry out treatment.

He is the only child and his mum’s health is also not great either. I just can’t help, but think we will not get the chance to go away and his mum will need a lot of support if his father was to pass away. I feel so selfish writing this, but everything is centred around his father at the moment. I want to be here for him, just feel emotionally drained myself and don’t no what to do next for the best. I'm 30 now and feel that I’m not getting any younger. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

The world will always be there, but if you love your boyfriend, then you must also respect his need to be with his family at this time. He will thank you for your patience.
