Today’s the start of Turkey Break! However, its 7:45 am and we’ve already encountered some problems. The morning began smoothly with the taxi arriving early, got to ElWe y in about 20 minutes and the rise cost less than 30 quid. We even ended up being 40 minutes early for our train, which for me is really good. We finally got settled onto out train when the announcement that a fallen trees was blocking the tracks and we would have to switch trains immediately if we wanted to be on time for London. A fallen tree, man-o-man! This means that we now end up at a different station in London and have to take the tube to the correct station; hopefully we don’t miss our train!

As you can tell we survived our travel troubles, however, due to the earlier train switch we ended up missing our train to Cardiff, Wales. I nearly took the wrong tube line I was because I was so anxious to catch our train. Thankfully they stamped Jessie’s ticket, saving her from buying a new train ticket to Cardiff. We arrived in Cardiff after a relaxing 3 hour train
ride, this time minus any fallen trees. Three buildings and two confused looks later we found someone that was actually able to point us in the right direction. The YHA is pretty decent and I find it quite exhilarating to be traveling and staying in hostels again. Anyway, we walked to the city center where we visited their Christmas market. We also found a Primark (one of my favorite stores ever!) At one point I was nearly hit by a car because I looked the wrong way. Well as soon as I crossed the street the light turned red and of course the driver was right there and I was extremely embarrassed. I made Jess walk into the nearest pub with me until the light turned green. Overall, this incident turned out to be a positive one because if I hadn’t almost been hit I wouldn’t have gone to hide in the pub, where I ended up finding awesome pint glasses.
I would say for the first day of our break was quite successful!

Happy Thanksgiving! We are on the Mega Bus departing Wales for Manchester, England. I find it kind of ironic that although I
am in England I will be in Manchester for Thanksgiving, just like my parents will be in Manchester. I’m excited to go to Manchester, I’ve never been before and Jess says they have a really cool German Christmas market. And the best part about traveling through Mega Bus is that we don’t have any changes and hopefully no fallen trees

Well I finally arrived in Nottingham and it feels wonderful to be back. Several of my friends are on the same Luther exchange program that I did two years ago so they invited me over to the flat for their Thanksgiving dinner. It felt like I had been gone for only a short time since I still remembered where everything was in the flat. I also felt like I was returning from a trip only to find people had moved into MY house. I was glad to be able to see my friends; yet, I felt strange the entire night and almost regretted my decision to attend the dinner. However, I’m at last with two of my closest friends and it feels more like home here than it does on the base.

The past two days have been awesome!!! Yesterday Molly took the day off and we visited all my favorite places in Nottingham: the Christmas Market in city center, Primark, and of course I couldn’t leave without a white hot chocolate from the Malt Cross. Last night we also cooked a belated Thanksgiving dinner, because besides Kia and I the other four dinner guests have never celebrated Thanksgiving. Be impressed, we even had a turkey and made homemade stuffing. Now this Thanksgiving felt very warm and welcoming and was a great addition to my trip.

Well I am on the train back to London. Its kind of depressing just thinking about having to return to base. The base isn’t horrible but actually having friends around and being able to get places is fantastic. Today was nice and chill, we filled our morning watching Top Gear and watching British chav music. Molly also took me to visit campus, where we fed the ducks and satisfied our sweet tooth by visiting the student union and buying yummy pick-n-mix. Leaving Notts was difficult because its disheartening to leave close friends and a city you love and not
know when you will next return.
