What a great day we have had today. Decided to stay in Liverpool an extra nite as there is too much to do in only 2 nites.

Hannah wanted to go on the Wacker Quacker - anyone know what this is??? It took us on a tour of Liverpool showing us some of the beautiful old buildings, churches, cathredrals, and city monuments. Fantastic architecture. Then we entered the waters of the Albert Docks and were shown around the area with all the old warehouses which are now converted into apartments, shops and hotels.

We then headed off to a laundrette. Now that was something new, we hadn't done our laundry in a laundrette before. It is a relaxing time really, nothing to do but watch the laundry go round and round.

Then off to the Williamson Tunnels. Robert has always wanted to visit this site. The tour of the tunnels was only a very small area of the tunnels that are underneath Liverpool. The total amount of tunnels is approx 2.5 miles long. Williamson was a very wealthy man who worked hard to earn his respect and keep his wealth. He was an eccentric man who married his employers daughter. His father-in-law left Williamson his fortunes when he died which made Williamson very wealthy indeed. There is great evidence that the reason for Williamson building these tunnels is .......... The tunnels were built one on top of another which made the land rise, and then houses could be built on top of them. This provided work for not only the unemployed men who built the tunnels (learning a trade) and houses but also the women and children of Liverpool who made the bricks that were used to build the tunnels. These tunnels have been filled in over the years with peoples rubbish and commercial waste. People today are digging out these tunnels just to get a better understanding about them all. It was very interesting. Hannah had the job of finding and counting how many moles were in the tunnel, guess how many she found???

We drove to The Old Swan area of Liverpool. This is where Robert lived when he was about 11. We saw his old home at 28 Scotia Road, visited his local park where he sailed in his yatch, also visited the Swimming Baths where he would go and swim for hours on end. Unfortunately the baths (as they call them) have been filled in and the beautiful Art Deco building is now a humungous pet shop. One of the pools has been converted into sections where there are live fish of many sizes, mainly gold fish and carp. The public are allowed to feed them. Some of the fish would have made a great dinner for a family of 10.

For tea we went to a Pub called Toby's Carvery which was called The Queens Hotel and had an old fashioned beef and yorkshire pudding roast. Yummy. Robert used to get chased by the publican for climbing the fence.

Off to bed now, catching up on some well earned ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZs.

Nite. 10.15pm
