The rough route we plan on taking
So...here's the first entry on my travel blog! There's about 2 weeks left until we leave for South America so the final preperations are in full swing. Most of the kit is bought by now and we're planning a 2-3 day test ride next week to test out the new gear and check that we can actually fit everything on our bikes.

The bikes (custom built Thorn Nomad w/ rohloff hub) are supposed to able to take up to 50kgs of gear but hopefully ours won't weigh more than around 25kgs. I may be pushing it up the hills if it does!

Our flight leaves on February the 14th and we will be flying into Ushuaia via Paris and Buenos Aires. We will then make our way through Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia to the north coast before flying out of Bogota on August 11th.

The map i uploaded with this post shows the rough route we're taking, with the main places we're planning to visit. It's hard to tell the exact distance we'll cover but i'd guess between 5000 and 6000 miles. This means we have to average around 30 miles a day for 6 months. We won't be cycling every day as we will be seeing the sights as we go so it won't be quite that consistant but cycling for 7-8 hours a day should allow us to cover a lot further than 30 miles.

I'll be posting here as regularly as i can but will also be carrying a GPS tracker which will plot my location when i press the button each day. I will be posting a link to the location map once i've set it up which should plot my way points as i go.
