5990 miles to Hong Kong - the first leg of my journey. The plane is taxi-ing along the runway, the thrust has kicked in. Were accelerating, zooming and lifting. There was a bit of a clunk... but hey, there goes England.

Cars tiny and ant like within seconds of lift off. A-merry-go-round, a big top, a sports stadium, a station, and isn't that Battersea Power Station.... The cars are now more flea sized.

And suddenly sunlight. We're above the cloud. A sea of cotton wool. A hole in the clouds is appearing. I can see the coast. The waves look like ripples. The clouds cast dark blue shadows on the surface. A solitary ship ploughs a lonely furrow through the water. And then others slip into view. Shrinking white specks in the endless blue. A journey on one of these sea monsters is something I'd like to try one day.

Hong Kong, Vietnam, here I come.
