Edit Blog Post
Hi everyone!! Sorry...it’s been a little while since I’ve written a blog, but we have been a little preoccupied with finding a place to live that it’s been all we’ve really been doing other than working and sleeping over the past month!
So I am now pleased to announce that we have found a place to live...and it’s in the same house as Jackie!!! How funny, and awesome! We move in tomorrow, and I’m really looking forward to it. It’ll be heaps of fun, and in a few weeks Dave will be joining us as well so we should have some good times. And Dave told me today he is a good cook, so I am waiting to find out if that’s true. Mmmmm!! 😊
Disappointing though, was that Jimmy and I, Dave, and Laura and her friend Sam were all looking for a place together which also would’ve been great because it would’ve been our own place (not a house share!!) and we found one we loved in Putney, but it wasn’t available until November 18...a bit far away. So we ended up taking the place in Clapham; a) because I was SICK TO DEATH of looking at
Gumtree.com/Findaproperty.com/Hotproperty.co.uk and going to house viewings each night where majority were complete holes, and b) because we all thought we should move on from where we have been staying with family in our case and friends in Laura and Sam’s - who have been absolutely fantastic of course, but who I’m sure want their places back to themselves. So hopefully Laura and Sam find something close by and move out of the East of London...(you reading this Laura??) 😉
Once again, Penny, Stephen and Katie have been absolutely brilliant to us; cooking us dinner, driving us to stations for house viewings, giving us tips on London life, letting us use their laptops day in and day out to search the Gumtree (oh, and check Facebook), and just putting up with us in general being in their space for the past month. Really, if I haven’t said it already...thank you so much to the Burls of London, you will never know how much we seriously appreciate everything you have done for us!! xx
So the place we’re moving into is in Clapham. It’s right by Clapham Common which is a big park/grass area where they have quite a few
festivals and other events there so I’m told, and it is about a 10 minute walk to Clapham Junction train station which will take us to pretty much anywhere around London, and a little bit more to Clapham Common tube station - both of which will take us straight into central London, and both of which we can get to on a bus from the end of our street if we’re feeling lazy (or cold in a few weeks time!). It really is a great location which I’m happy about and it’s really easy for me and James both to get to work from there. The house is nice with a kitchen and lounge area we can hang out in, plus a backyard for nice days, and our room is quite big. We’re sharing with 7 other people in total I think...but from what Jackie and Mark have said; you barely ever see them!! Weird huh?!
We are moving into our new room tomorrow...a bit exciting, and tonight Stephen and Penny gave us our ‘Happy Flat Warming Survival Kit - The first 24hrs’ gift box. It’s brilliant!! In it, we have:
- Washing detergent
- Shower gel
- Toilet
paper
- Paper towels
- Tissues
- Sugar
- Tea bags
- Coffee
- Biscuits
- Chips
- Peanut butter
- Branston pickles
- Mustard
- Pasta
- Pasta sauce
- 2 Mars Bars
- 2 bottles of Stella Artois
- 1 bottle of wine
- Apron, and most special of all;
- 1 jar of Stephen’s famous plum jam - YUM!!
And after the deposit we have just had to put on this room, it looks like this will in fact be our 3 week survival kit, not just 24 hours!!! 😊
We both started full time work a month ago now. Jimmy actually was hard at work pretty much as soon as we arrived (he had one day’s rest after us arriving from Salzburg) doing a day as a furniture removalist - a 14hr day which he got ripped off for - and then a week with a Kiwi landscaper which he described as the hardest work he’s ever done.
So now James is at a company called Graham & Green driving forklifts, and I am at a place called Automotive PR and loving it. We were both pretty lucky in finding work so quick
(mine with thanks to Laurissa who put the hard yards in at Automotive PR a couple of years back when she was in London and I’m sure who had something to do with having an interview on the Friday and beginning on the Monday!)
So what else have we been doing in London? Well, we have visited Kydi and Adrian who cooked us a lovely lasagne (tasted just like mum’s...right out of the Women’s Weekly Cookbook) with Eugene over as well which was great to see them. We’ve both had shithouse colds. I've been shopping on Oxford Street, we’ve watched Australia smash Wales at a temporarily set up venue in Vauxhall, went to a party in East London with Laura and Sam, watched Hawthorn lose 😞 to the Roos at the Slug @ Fulham, then returned last weekend at 4:30am to watch the Grand Final which was a bit of fun - mind you I was completely wrecked for the entire weekend after that! That place is bizarre...I have been there twice and have now seen: a guy who lives three doors down from us in Endeavour Hills just walking around, a girl we met travelling in Europe out
the front on GF morning (not that weird I guess), a girl I went to first year uni with at the bar, and a girl I worked with at Hawthorn FC in the toilet queue. I’m actually not sure how many young Australians must be left in Australia...I think I found them all at the Slug!! Jimmy also saw a guy he played against in basketball back in Moe! So random...I love it!
Anyway, we better go pack up some of our stuff so we can make ourselves a little home tomorrow morning!! I’m a bit excited! Woohoo...Jackie and Mark, here we come!
Speak to you all soon.
Loz & Jimmy xx
