Carl and I started our trip with a couple days in London. We flew in to Gatwick on August 13. He started chatting girls up on the train into London. We had no problems meeting up with Chris and since it was his birthday, we knew it was going to be a big night for us all. We went for dinner at an Indian restaurant with Chris and his brother Al before meeting up with his new friends, Diana and Liana (sp?). We went salsa dancing at a place called Club Havana. We had lots of drinks that night because the place had no air conditioning and we nicknamed it the sweat box. The next day we toured around London with Chris and met up with some Spanish friends of his, Txell (pronounced shell) and her Catalan friends. We saw Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Covenant Gardens, Piccadilly Circus, the Maple Leaf pub and more. We had lunch with them and then Carl and I took off for sightseeing. We walked from Buckingham Palace along the south side of the river Thames, all the way to Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. Chris even managed to find us a happening club
on a Sunday. We had a couple drinks and Carl just missed out on a new girlfriend 😊
The next day we took the bus to Oxford and met up with Rhiannon and her roommate Kitty. Rhi took us punting on the Oxford canals and then we picked Rich up for dinner. Rhi, Rich, Kitty, Carl and I had dinner at a pizza place where Rhi sprung some big news. Rich was bamboozled out of paying the bill by some pretty sharp Canadians. Rhiannon took us sightseeing the next day and we went to Stonehenge, Avebury, the Uffington White horse and Ellsbridge. We almost got arrested at least once. But that’s pretty normal for Rhi’s sightseeing tours. We started to help Rhi’s family set up the wedding, moving crates, preparing the 100 table settings and chopping veggies for the food. We must have been more helpful than we thought because we got two mentions in the wedding speeches. We had an awesome night out with Sam, Johnny, Charlie and little Anna at several night clubs. We really tore up the town that night.
We left Rhi and Rich to prepare and had a day or two with Anna
B.(who had visited Canada earlier that summer). Anna showed us around Oxford and took us kayaking on the River Thames (or Isis in Oxford). We had a dancing night out too, where we met some of her friends. We had dinner the night before the wedding with Rhi’s family because we happened to bump into them at the local pub. Almost the whole wedding party was there except Rich and Rhi, quite funny. The day of the wedding was spectacular. Rhiannon looked beautiful in her wedding dress and marched down the aisle to the Star Was theme music. I was honoured to give a reading at the wedding and didn’t realize I would be one of only two people to do so. The wedding reception was great and the disco ball, which Carl and I helped hang from the ceiling, worked great. The speeches were awesome. I shed a tear at Rhiannon’s dad’s speech. The food was very good and was all prepared by Rhi’s mum and her many sisters. We had a great time dancing the night away. We arrived a little late the next morning for a wind down party and said our goodbyes to Rhi and Rich
as they were heading off on their honeymoon to North Carolina. We also said good bye to all our new Oxford friends before heading back to London for a flight to Dublin.
2016 Update - Rich and Rhi now have three kids and moved over to Vancouver, BC, Canada to live int he same town with us. Anna B. is now living in Brisbane with her husband Tom and two kids. Carl is still chasing the girls.
