This was my first trip over to Europe. I, along with other family members, had come to England for my younger sister's wedding. Before heading up to where the wedding was being held we had a few days to check out the sights in London.

Tower of London - White Tower

Although these days the name refers to the whole of the Tower complex, originally 'Tower of London' belonged to the main feature, the White Tower. The White Tower was founded by William the Conqueror around 1078 and was completed around 1097.

Built as part of Henry III's queen's lodgings, it was gutted by fire in 1774. The current Lanthorn Tower was built in the 19th century.

Waterloo Barracks is the home of the Crown Jewels. Most of the pieces on display are part of the Coronation Regalia. One nearly successful attempt was made in 1671 to steal them.

Legend says the kingdom and the Tower will fall if the six ravens ever leave the fortress. Seven are actually kept at the Tower - not sure which was the apprentice.

Tower Bridge

Constructed between 1876 and 1884 to relieve pedestrian and vehicle traffic from an increasingly populated east London.
