pre-move
oh! the mess!!! So we’re 30,000 or whatever feet in the air. Somewhere over places I never hope to see - Labrador I think. We're flying 2 days early on account of British Airways cabin crews deciding to threaten strike action on the day ofour original flight. Over the inability to call in sick over an ingrown toenail, or something. I mean they haven't called a strike in 10 years (10 years!!!!!) and they call one on the day of our move!
The airport good-byes weren’t too bad. My parents have been really lovely of late, and it was hard to say good-bye. My Mom kept saying that it was weird that they came all the other way across the Atlantic to give us a better life, and now I was reversing the journey. I kept having to remind her that they did indeed give us a much better life and opportunities that I would have never had - if I’d just been traveling over to London as an ordinary Polish citizen.
I think part of my wanderlust does come as a result of being an immigrant and not really feeling like Canada was truly my home. My Dad was far more

How sad..... pulled together - even though I know this is really hard for him - he said he knew I was going to be really happy and he only wished for the best for me. I’m much closer to him, and will miss having the security net of knowing he’d drop everything and be right there if I needed him. More than at any other time I feel like and adult without the parental safety net.
Our flight was actually due to depart early and we’d pulled out of the gate when the captain came on and told us that one of the three engines at the back of the plane wasn’t working. Huh? This is too much info, non? This is apparently the engine that allows the plane to start up and they were going to pull us in manually and start the engine with an external engine (????) This would "hopefully" allow us to start and take off. Say what??? I mean the pilot actually said that . As Sarah said, the man could use some lessons in bedside manner. I don’t know about anyone else - but talk of engine trouble and “hopefully” taking off, puts me
mmmm Sushi
I will miss you off. The little man with the big external fan engine, or whatever apparently did his job - and we’re off. I guess not all of the engines of the plane are necessary. Huh… who knew….
A lovely English bloke agreed to switch seats and Sarah and I ended up sitting together in our lovely emergency row seating (Which gives me a surprisingly large area in which to stretch my legs in an attempt to ward off deep vein thrombosis. I will be doing full leg lunges very soon) I don’t know if he switched out of being polite and cause he appreciated my grinning at him - or - after I’d knocked over his water bottle he thought he might be safer on the other side of the plane. Either way, it worked and the Rental and I are enjoying this endless flight together. Although she’s making a good attempt at sleeping through this whole flight - leaving me and my attention deficit disorder to myself. I’ve already discounted all the movies being shown today (my choices were: something ridiculous called “Flyboys”, “Accepted”, “Idlewind” and “Black Dalia” ) Poo-pooed the dinner (why does British Airways insist on perpetuating the
The old "make-out" crown
Found this at the bottom of my closet while packing - for those of you who remember it - those were the days, huh? stereotype and serving over cooked carrots, bad beef and greasy mashed potatoes?) and am plowing my way throught my "fast food" reading - the Ya-Yas in Bloom
I feel truly bad for the poor little taxi driver tomorrow (today?) morning. We each have 3 huge 70 lb bags (yes - that is indeed 210 lbs of clothing and shoes EACH) and I’m a little worried he might not be able to handle it all.
In general feeling good - if not a little surreal about this life change - it mostly feels like I’m going on holiday. I really don’t think the full reality will not hit me till a month from now. Now I just hope we find a flat soon - since we don’t want to impose on Caroline and Tuula too much (4 girls, 1 bathroom - could get a little crazy) Besides I simply don’t know where we might all fit - given that our 420 combined pounds of baggage might take over the lounge and the rest of the flat. .
Som randon thoughts:
Things I will miss:
- My girls
- Knowing there are any number of
My luggage
All my worldly belongings ..... people I can lean on at any given time (I mean if I got arrested tomorrow I have a good list of people to call - and that's important)
- Going to work everyday knowing I’m good at my job and have loads of fun at work ( I mean - what if I work with old farts at my new job?)
- SUSHI (Yum!!!)
- central heating (and surely air conditioning for that matter)
Things I will not miss:
- "By the book Dave" - the concierge
- our creepy landlord
- the minus 15 temperatures
- the guys in TO who mostly look like hobbits - or "Lord of the Rings" extras
- the fact that the most exciting place within travelling distance from TO is Montreal
Overall - looking forward to the adventure! Bring it!
