Canada trip – the travel begins! Well so far it’s been ok. The taxi from home to the bus station was 10 minutes early. Luckily, I was ready 15 minutes early. The National Express coach was about 10 minutes late leaving the bus station, but that was because we were waiting for passengers to arrive from Plymouth for an onward journey to LHR and that bus was late in. No problem, we arrived at LHR safely and in good time. The driver made a lovely little speech before we left Bristol welcoming us on board his coach; he sounded Polish, and while he had a strong accent and spoke quite fast he was easily understandable, even though he said at least 3 times that his English was poor. He sent a little love up the coach and asked us to pass it on to make someone else’s day a better one. So sweet J He also said his driving was better than his English! They were both just fine as far as I was aware – I may have shut my eyes for a little while.
The bus journey from LHR to my hotel was uneventful. The first new
experience of the trip for me is the digital key available on the Hilton Honors app - yes, it’s American. It allows one to check in before arrival having chosen which room you’d like, and to go straight to your room using your smart phone to access the lift and the room door. Clever!
I’ve checked out the times of the Heathrow Hoppa for the morning, and plan to check in at the airport and get to the lounge in good time for breakfast.
Susan and I are due to fly to Halifax in Nova Scotia on the 6
th June. I soooo want to swim in the Bay of Fundy! She let me know yesterday that there’s a wild fire in the Tantallon area of Halifax, but thinks we’ll be ok because we’re going to the Bedford area, although to me it looks pretty close to the evacuation area on the map.
We already knew about the wild fires in Alberta near Calgary where we’re due to fly on the 11
th. It looks like these are reducing in number, but I guess they could take off again. I feel really lucky that we don’t have this problem in the UK – yet!
Still, Canada is certainly big enough for a plan B if we can’t do plan A, and I can always go back on another occasion if needs be.
Anyway, a Caesar salad for dinner followed by a fruit salad with mango sorbet in
Jack’s was quite yummy. There might have been a glass of wine and a Café Royale too!
I’m back in my room now with a glass of Sauvignon to finish with. My alarm will be set for 06:45 with the aim of catching the 07:24 Heathrow Hoppa. No worries if I miss it, they’re scheduled for every 30 minutes.
Until tomorrow...
