Emily, Liz, Me, Elizabeth and Lauren ...and the charge begins. Monday we spent the whole day at Hasbro learning about the company and the charge. The Hasbro office is so fun and laid back. When you first walk in there is a game display of all the Hasbro games (Sorry, Clue, Pictureka…). We were fed coffee/teas and crackers/cookies when we first got there. Then we got to learn all about the company and more in-depth information on our target market. Then we had an extravagant lunch with sandwiches, potato fries, side dishes, drinks and cookies. As a Hirvela this was just great, taking full advantage of any free food. After lunch we got to walk around the office and see all of the areas. Everything was so laid back - everyone was in casual outfits and posted in their “creative element.” There were games, from each stage of the process, everywhere. Game heaven essentially is how it was. We were lucky enough to score a free game, card game and Nerf gun on the first day. We finally received the long awaited charge. Not only was there one, but two charges. Our first task is to reinvent a Hasbro game to appeal and attract to our target

group of Highwire students market, 15-21 year olds. Our second charge is to create a completely new game that attracts our target market. This is a VERY large task, but it is something that is going to be so fun to work on. We are able to be as creative as we can and are able to experience it all by playing games. I mean what could be better than that work? Oh maybe doing it in London - oh wait, got that covered too. So not too much! After our day at Hasbro we ventured out into the city to see some sights. A hop, skip and tube ride later we landed ourselves in Trafalgar Square. First stop in London. (Just so similar to my book Katie Goes to London - so maybe I’ll get to have tea with the Queen too?) Quite a scene was caused by us 5 Americans trying to climb up onto the brass lions. After many attempts and stares/laughing by all those around we made it up. If only the lion would have taken off like in the book. We wandered down the street towards Big Ben. We were able to see the London Eye all lit up

One set of guards up close at night. Big Ben, Parliament Building and Westminster Abbey looked so pretty all lit up at night (a sight to see). After stopping to take pictures I’m sure my picture count of the clock tower and Eye have exceeded 200. Benefit: I have almost every single angle of them both. There are 31 other students here from my school on this program so it has been so much fun to get to know them and hang out with so many new people. I knew of most people before came of either by friend of friend or from a class, but everyone seems so nice. Tuesday we were broken into our research teams - each research team was made up of a mix of people from each of the 3 competitive teams. My research group’s task was to do research on the supply chain of games. Jenna, Curtis and I were on a mini-team and had to wait for a contact to get back to us. Therefore all the other mini groups went out to the stores they were doing research on and we were supposed to do online research for when everyone came back and we had 4 hours. Well
Jenna, Curtis and I decided that computer research was slightly overrated for 4 hours and that we could do it in 1. With changing of the guards starting 30 minutes later off we were to Buckingham Palace by tube for “research.” Why not take full advantage of all the time we have in London? We had to push our way up as far as we could for a view - I mean it’s ok, we’re American. We got lucky, as the Queen was in town so we even got to see her. I was surprised by the actual process. It was more about the march and band playing than the actual changing of the guards. The whole thing took about 45 minutes so when it was over we ventured to get lunch. We ate at a very popular chain in England - Pret a Manger. We have yet to figure out exactly how to pronounce it so we say PAM. I guess it was time for us to get back so we could do a little research before everyone else got back. So we spent about 45 minutes when we got back to the college and got some very useful

Elephant on the walk there information. Wednesday was another day to work. We just continued our research. In the afternoon we broke up and did more outside research in the city. Tyler, Jenna, Dan and I went to Covent Garden and Piccadilly Circus. We were able to wander around and check everything out. We found a delicious crepe stand and I couldn’t resist the French delicacy. Jenna, Tyler and I’s friend, Leah, was on a layover in London for a few days so we met up with her and her mom and aunt for dinner and drinks. We ate at a delicious noodle bar in a very fun part of town. Her aunt lives in London 2 weeks out of every month for work so she was able to show us all the hot spots. After dinner Leah, Tyler, Jenna and I went to this wine bar and had a drink. There was such an English atmosphere which was so much fun. Thursday brought our last workday of the week! These four day weeks are great. We spent the day working on finalizing our research and watching videos to do more “research.” We watched a lot of flash mob videos. (You have to check out

The statue in front of the palace the flash mob video from Ohio State - it’s great!) I met up with Elizabeth and Jayme for dinner at a local place. I spent the night figuring out plans for the weekend and getting everything lined up. I cannot believe one week has passed - ahh so much to do and so little time.
