Taking London by Storm...

Changing of the GuardsChanging of the GuardsChanging of the Guards

This is right about the time we figured out what was going on...
Hello Everyone,

well we finally made it to an internet cafe, it took us asking some woman on the train, going through Trafalgar Square, passing through the Cinema/Theatre area, then moving through the Gay/Redlight district (Soho, for those who've been), and just outside of China Town.

So here we are... it has been a fantastic two days so far. As expected we were wrecked after the 9 hour flight and then 1.5 hour bus ride into London... we didn't sleep at all on the flight and it was kind of a gong not knowing what we were doing/where we were going once we got off the plane. Some guy had a sign to pick up Dopey and Sleepy but i guess it wasn't for us (although it could've been).

We stayed in our first dive hostel last night. And it was a very good deal (minus the crazy guy yelling in the hallway, out of control cold shower and really nasty carpet) it was £11.50 for the night - our own room, own bath room and a meal... so we might go back just for those reasons...

It took us a while to find it and we

(As close as we were getting to Prince William- Duchess Amanda and Lady Carly didn't fly...)
were even knocking on randoms' doors at one point... lugging our hot matching suitcases- pretty funny.

We now believe that we have mastered the tube and are quite proud- even with our 30kilos of crap we are each lugging (which by the way is too much... 😉 )

We've also made a few interesting observations about London:
-It is really green here, or as we like to call it LUSH
-They have very unique ways of saying things on signs (ie: mind the gap (translation: don't fall into the 6inch hole between the train and platform- also don't let your 20kilo suitcase on wheels get caught either)
-Even though their signs are polite, the people are a somewhat different story- not in terms of meeting them/chatting/ getting directions- but if you are in a lineup- the rules DO NOT apply- you charge and barge as needed or you will be left in the dust...
-Handicap ppl could NOT live here, seriously we had to lug our crap up so many flights of stairs... out of control- also cobblestones are difficult to maneouver wheels on)
-Cars don't stop when crossing the street, unless it's a police car and even
ProofProofProof

Proof of our lessons learned- the signage... it's strange
then it's iffy
-We should value our personal space in Canada much more than we do...
-Oh yeah and Amanda wants to campaign for a much improved recycling / rubbish bins program, she's planning on writing mr. blaire.

This morning we managed to find the contiki basement and left our stuff there to go site seeing. We did it all on our own, with a tube map and a few pounds- it was great! We saw changing of the guards at Buckinham (by accident, picture Carly going why are all these ppl here and Amanda saying oh maybe someone famous is coming...) anyways we figured it out after a bit... lot of pomp and circumstance but neat... took a pic of what i assume to be prince w.'s vw but i deleted it- crap! oh well.

Went to Westminster Abbey and went on the tour it was beautiful inside.

Then saw Big Ben/Parliment Buildings... walked to Trafalgar Square, sat on the lions- Amanda started a trend with her picture... everybody was doing it after that... lol

We then walked across the Thames and went on the London Eye (big ferris wheel) it was amazing and got some neat shots from that.

We wandered back to the hotel and check in and met some of our tour ppl and then took the train down here. Will probably grab a bite to eat and head back as we head to France 6 am tomorrow.

Hope all is well - take care

Hey team travel! First Question: Are the accents hot? just kidding, lets not get carried away here! Sounds like you guys are having a blast. It is a well deserved trip and I hope that you teach Europeans that you have Canadian pride and for that matter Canadian alcohol tolerance. Anyways keep it real out there, Brendan - Brendan
