They know the way to my heart!!
Graham and Laurence certainly know how to look after me!! Yes, yes indeed.. I have been blantenly lied to.. The English summer does get hot!! Last week we experienced London't hottest ever day, and it's only rising.. And A/C is not on the menu!!
It has made for some very interesting changes in behaviour!! Many a pot bellied pub goers have decided that it is cause to dis-robe and expose their reflect white torso's.. The usual suited business crowd have been allowed to leave their ties and jakets at home.. And the trendy town of London has lost all respect as I was shattered to see Kim Catrall from Sex in the City shopping on Oxford, also falling from her height of fashion this week, as she matched a cute orange oben backed sun dress with a daggy black bra across her back..
Other more welcome changes have developed over the week with the weather though - such as the Canary Warf Open Air concerts.. Thursday night, I met the boys after work, we headed into Waitrose and bought ourselves a picnic and found a patch of grass in the center garden where the concerts were taking place each night for the next fortnight.. Our stash of wine and
nibblies seemed to attract quite a few of the boys collegues, and we ended up with quite a crowd!! The music was fantastic, and the atmosphere was good fun! We then continued through to another near by bar before popping out a birthday cake for Adam at mid-night that I prepared earlier - candles and all!! Which also required a bottle of champagne, and another few hours of shinanigans!
The following night being Adam's birthday, and we were not to let that go to waste.. I hit the clubbing guides, not really knowing what I was looking for.. Until I found the home of resident DJ Benny Banassi's.. (for those unfamiluar with the horribly irritating yet strangley addictive song Satisfaction it's loud and bassy!!) so Turnmills it was!! And we weren't dissapointed..
I found that my Lonley Planet guide wasn't lying when it told me that "Illegal drugs are easily acsessable in London, esspecially in and around large clubbing venues." as I was approached by 5 different sellers within the 200m from the tube station to the club entrance despite the large poilce presence.. And once inside a young russian introduced himself as King Aurthur and explained to
me when I asked what he did with himself he explained that he was the kind of guy that money found, and so he just spent his time spending it!! Interesting.. Porbably should have paid more attention, considering I am still spending, not earning!! But I left to continue dancing!!
After two very big nights, Adam went home to see his family and Laurence also returing home for his Dad's birthday Frankie and I enjoyed a relaxed weekend of newspapers in the park, home hunting and career searching!
Sunday we decided we needed something to tell the boys we'd been up to so we headed to the cineama to see The Break Up.. and Frankie saw a new side of me, which i thought was very very funny!
We bought our tickets to the film then went for a few drinks (known widely as a cheeky drink - the justification for random beverages!), making us late for the previews of movie and there were no groups of two seats left.. Although we were happy to sit apart, we thought it would be more fun just to sit in the front and have a little picnic with our
Cake Anybody??
I bought it myself ;) Megan Special!! popcorn.. So the staff eventually came down and told us we couldn't do that or they would kick us out, so i went outside to speak to them and very firmly and asertivly - but politely said "As you can see, we bought these tickets 20 mins before the film, we spent those 20 mins trying to find double seats and were unsucsessfull. (slight stretch of the truth!) As you can see, we bought them together, and have no desire to sit alone. So you can refund them, and give us vouchers to see the film again tomorrow and vouchers to cover the re-purchase our popcorn and candy, or you can find us two seats together in the theature." Haha.. poor Frankie was like WOW what happened to the cute quiet aussie.. Anyway, we got our seats! They now see that I am a woman who knows what she want's and how to get it - So watch out!! Haha.. As I explained to them when he told the rest the story latter that night, all i did was turned their problem into my problem and gave them the oppertunity to solve it! People Management!
On a less excited
Turning it up @ Turnmills
Frankie, his friend Sophie and Me.. Wooooo!! Party!! note, the managment I saw yesterday wasn't quite as sucsessfull. On Monday I had my first big and exciting interview in the position of Event Sales and Marketing for a London Marketing company.. The interview went fantastically. I liked them, they liked me, and I got a call later in the afternoon asking me to come in the following day for a trial and to see what they are all about.. So in true fashion, the boys took me out to a fun little Jazz Club to celebrate my first "working" day on English soil!
Unfortunatly we had very different opinions of what "Events" are.. Very, very different - off the charts different!! Their events are the sales stalls set up infront of supermarkets.. So the position entailed setting up the stall (The Event) presenting toys (The Marketing) and making money (The Sales)..
Fold out tables (Dirty, old, colapsable tables) with a Charity Sign (Again, dirty, old and ducktaped) and Toys placed randomly on the table.. Their deal is that they sell the toys at a cheaper price than the stores, and give 5% to the charity signed.. They are sales people.. They have no prices set, they make them up as they go, they have no form of reciepts, and they have no proof to give the chairty how much they sold under their name compared to how much they passed on, and they don't even keep any record to say how much they earn't duing the day to give their bosses.. Infact they bought me lunch from one of the earnings in the stalls.. Their ID Badges are crookedly cut paper laminated - looking 150% dogdy! And for all those involved in the DSSIG Conference or Keith's big bash, you will know how important a good name tag is to the Adams women!!One man approaced them and asked how they could prove they were the chairty, and they showed them a signed letter that wasn't on letterhead from the chairman ofthe charity.. No folders.. No logo's.. No beautifully presented hand outs..
So when at the end of a very long 10 hour day observing these "Events" I had a meeting with the manager, where I showed him my folio of graphics and events, my standard and my expectation.. He offered me the oppertunity to share how I would wish to improve, and I listed all of these things and he wasn't the slightest piece impressed, as he thought he was doing fabulously, but still continued offered me the job.. I have until 1pm today to say "hey or ney" at our next meeting - which i won't be going too!!
Leaving me in the head space of what am I really doing here!! Feeling a little bit guttered, alone and unsure.. But I'm not jumping on that plane home yet.. My friend Jasmine is arriving on Monday for a few days on her world tour- she's even bringing me some Sweettarts from the USA!! YAY.. Love her!!
So hopefully on good things are to follow.. I was really hoping to tell you all that I was hired! But I did work for one day!! And I haven't started dipping into any emergency funds or credit cards yet.. So that's something!!?? Isn't it!!
