After assessing Joel's blistered feet, i decided it wasn't enough to worry about due to the limited time we have in this gorgeous city. A case of toughen up Princess, and put those walking shoes back on.
Now being a Harry Potter Fan, my first port of call, was checking out this Kings Cross station that is mentioned in the books. I decided to walk around its block checking it out from all angles. Ok, so maybe not the best use of time, but a couple of the really old buildings were just to die for and the round random circle things I thought were very cute, though I have no idea what on earth they are just doing there! The station itself is just beautiful. We wander around in circles I think, then eventually gave up and had to ask, where is Platform 9 & 3/4. It was a bit of a downer that the one used in the first movies was behind a boarded up area that was under going some construction. Luckily for us idiot fans however they have a temporary photo stop that we could go to, to take the token photos as we disappear into
the station.
After this, we headed back into the city. After getting a kind of orientation the day previously, we knew better as to which sites were where. We headed past Downing Street looking down to see No. 10. Ticked that off our very tourist things to do list. We then walked down to probably one of the most popular areas. Big Ben and the Cathedral. I did want to go and have a look in the Cathedral, but seeing the line up, I decided that maybe I didn't really want to go in there afterall and continued walking around to get a better look at the clock tower.
As part of our two day bus ticket thingy, we were entitled to a cruise along the river, and as this was just near Big Ben, we walked down and jumped on board. Best thing about this cruise was that we went under the walkway that gets destroyed in Half Blood Prince (otherwise known as the Millenium Bridge). Yes small things amuse me. We also got to float past the Shakespeare Theatre and I can't remember if we went under London Bridge or not, but we got to see
it closer.
For the afternoon I decided to go check out the Tower of London. Its really strange walking around knowing a small amount of the history that took place within those walls. Finding the bloody tower was amazing, as well as just seeing the buildings and how old everything was. Joel especially loved the crown jewels. Ok, so did I, but you can't take photos in there, which took away alot of the fun for me. Definitely wouldn't mind having a couple of those peices in my closet at home!
The guards cracked me up. I mean seriously, how on earth are they supposed to defend the place when it doesn't even look like they can see underneath those massive hats????? I guess if nothing else, they could have the enemy rolled over laughing too much?
After having a good look around we made our way slowly back to the little hotel we were staying in and crashed again. The jet lag was still a big issue and we had the adventure of hiring a car to look forward to the following morning, so we wanted to rest up 😊
