Triconi 60 Trekking Pack
Front shot of my main bag. Look at all those straps! Not an article detailing how to eject a cat from your house... Geddit? Kit Out?.... Cat? Oh do try to keep up! 😱
Yesterday was a productive day! I headed off to
Itchy Feet on Wardour Street, credit card in hand (it's now sadly wilted).
I have to say that I'm so pleased that I made the effort to go to the shop rather than buying directly from the website. If all customer service were as
excellent as that demonstrated by Nir (that's the guy's name), the UK would be a much nicer place to shop.
I simply wandered in and explained my situation: I'm a first time traveller, heading off to South America, don't have a full itinerary yet so don't know
exactly what I'm going to be doing, have no idea what I need to take with me!
That didn't phase him at all. Straight away he pointed me in the direction of the
packing sheets that itchy feet have produced. He recommended I focus on the
General Advice sheet and the
Peruvian Adventure sheet.
Without further ado, we were off downstairs to get fitted for a trekking pack. It would have been
so easy to get lost in

Shot of the rear of the trekking pack. Still more straps! the myriad of choices that are available. But all the time Nir's guidance and experience steered me in, what I hope is, the right direction. Then for the next 2 hours and 20 minutes, he walked me the length and breadth (and depth) of the shop, pointing out what he considers essential, some nice-to-haves (and
why they're nice to have) and some things that I thought I might need but he assured me would be just a waste of money for me.
So, what did I get? I know you're
dying to find out! Here goes:
*
Gregory - Triconi 60 trekking pack - I was carrying around 12kg in the shop and it felt light as a feather
*
Gregory - Z25 Day pack - because I won't want to be
always carrying
everything around.
*
Toiletry Bag - Errrm, not much to say about this really. It's a toiletry bag. It has 3 zips. Errrm...
*
Victoria "Camping" Penknife - apparently if I get bitten by a snake, this is sharp enough for me to be able to hack of a limb to stop the venom from spreading. (just kidding mum)
*
Insect Repellant (with Z25 Day Pack
Front of the day pack. Not so many straps! DEET - 50+) - wherever I go, whatever I do, they're always there. It's like they can smell me.
*
Miox Water Purifier - Because I had to have at least
one gadget.
*
XL Travel Towel - Tiny, light, quick drying. Perfect.
*
Finger Tape - apparently good for preventing blisters on the feet!
*
Click Mosquito Bite Reliever - just in case the repellant doesn't work.
*
Travel Sewing Kit - now I just need to find somebody on my travels who can sew!
*
Tick Remover - ewwwww!!
*
Security Pocket - apparently my money is safer if it's somewhere near my groin - you can't really blame would-be robbers for not wanting to rifle around in that area too much.
*
Nalgene Hydration Pack - fill it with water, put it in the specially designed pocket of your rucksack, stick the hose in your mouth, drink all day!
*
Silk Sleeping Bag Liner- Easier to wash than a sleeping bag, and keeps those pesky bedbugs away.
*
Care Plus Wedge Shaped Mosquito Net - apparently the company that makes these give one net to a mosquito prone area for every one that they sell. Figured that
Z25 Day Pack
That's more like it...straps! was worth the extra couple of quid that I would have saved buying the cheaper brand.
*
Selection of dry bags - 3 x 13 litres, 2 x 4 litres. Good for internally organising the trekking pack and, most importantly, keeping everything dry!
I know what you're thinking: "What about a sleeping bag???".
Yeah, you're right. They didn't have the right one in stock so I should get that in the next week or so.
And I still need to get some suitable clothing (they say travel underwear is a must!)
Any way, I've added pictures so you can see what it all looks like. Kinda excited now 😱

Kit out!
Wow Chris, I am impressed, it's not like you to be quite so organised :-) So question is ....does it all fit in your rucksack and leave room for clothes and other stuff? Are you not taking a torch, would have thought that would be a must have - need to make sure you hack the correct limb off in the dark ;-) Looking good bro, you must be getting excited now it is getting a bit more realistic, i'm excited for you.
