7/02/09 - Today it was not snowing so we ventured out to Cirencester, which is a fairly big town in the Cotswolds. After a walk around we had a warming hot chocolate and then drove to Stowe-on-the-Wold where we had lunch in a cosy little pub. We had been to Stowe-on-the-Wold previously, but never before in the snow, which gave it quite a different appearance. 8/02/09 - Although there was some snow around today we decided to explore some more nearby villages. We drove to Broadway and had our usual hot chocolate in a lovely cafe, then to Stanton, a lesser-known Cotswolds town and Snowshill, where we had lunch in a pub full of locals and their dogs. After lunch we drove to The Slaughters (Upper and Lower), but by this time it was starting to ... read more

5/02/09 - It had snowed overnight and was still snowing off and on today, so we decided to just walk around the town, which was charming, but cold. The schools were closed and we saw some children throwing snowballs and sliding on toboggans. We went to the Duke of Wellington Pub for lunch, which was very warm and cosy and Ross had a pie and I had a ploughman's lunch. I tried the internet again, but it was still closed. 6/02/09 - It snowed very heavily this morning and the owner came and cleared our doorway for us, which was very nice. We went out briefly and bought some more supplies and then went home to lunch with tomato soup, baguettes and hot chocolate. We were very cosy in our little apartment. ... read more

4/02/09-We arrived at Heathrow Airport at about 8.30 am after a 12 hour flight. After a short bus ride we picked up our car, which was covered in ice, and headed off for the Cotswolds. Thanks to our GPS we drove into Boughton-on the-water two hours later. The scenery on the way and when we got there was just beautiful as everything was covered in snow. The river "Windrush" runs through this picturesque Cotswold village. The first thing we did was to go to a tourist information centre in the village. There we were told that it was the first time in 25 years that it had snowed in the Cotswolds. We were also given some information on a great place to stay which we looked over whilst having hot chocolates and cake in a lovely ... read more

Hi All, I'm sorry that it's been so long since my last entry, but it has been hard to find an internet at times and we were staying in a different place each night on our travels in South Africa. We are now at Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds in England and have been here since Wednesday, 4th February. We were worried that we might not get here as the airport had been closed due to the snow storms, however, we arrived on a non-snow day and picked up a car and drove the two hours to our present destination. Bourton-on-the Water is an absolutley beautiful little Cotswold village and although we have been here a couple of times before, we have never actually stayed. We have a lovely apartment in a main street right near the ... read more

The weekend Leah, Lauren, Chris and Emily hired a car and drove to the English countryside. We first stopped in at Oxford to see the university and have some lunch. We then headed up to Moreton-in-Marsh. It was freezing and so foggy. Looking out the window all you could see was white from about 5m. Each village is so quaint and cute and have the coolest names. They are all from Roman times. We also checked out Stow-on-the-Wold. There are cute little markets and shops scattered around. We went into this old toy shop and the man turned on this big automated puppet show with heaps of different cartoon characters. We spent the night in a B&B in Burton-on-the-Water. There is a river that runs through the town with little bridges crossing over. They call it ... read more

Hello from sunny England….NOT!!! More of that later. Paris was all that Paris should be. The weather was great, not too hot, not cold, and just right for touristing. We did all the sights from slightly afar so that we wouldn’t mingle with the crowds or do the lining up things. We’d bought a Metro pass so we utilized the trains a lot. Mont Marte was lovely with great views of Paris and a very nice Cathedral, Sacre Cuer. The street musicians were there. One with a harp was playing some beautiful music. Lib had organised some walks, this one being one of them. It took us past the artists in the market just below the cathedral and then afterwards down the 45 degree tram to a market street where we had lunch. That night we ... read more

With the River Windrush running through the center of the village Bourton-on-the-Water is often referred to as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds'. Bourton-on-the-Water has more than its share of Cotswold houses and cottages, many of them three hundred years old, some dating back to Elizabethan times four hundred years ago. There is plenty to see and do here, including a Bourton-on-the-Water Model Village, a 1/9th replica of Bourton-on-the-Water, built from the local Cotswold stone. Or just promenade up one side of the river and down the other, taking in all the sights. ... read more

Our last day trip outside of London would be to Cotswold and to the Blenheim Palace. This area was equally as beautiful as Bath and the country side of Wales. In the middle ages, Cotswold was well known throughout Europe for wool. This part of England was ideal for sheep. The land in the Cotswold is the largest in the UK and stretches from Chipping Campden to Bath. Cotswold is also known for limestone and it can vary in color from a honey golden brown to a cream color. There is a row of cottages on Arlington Row which were built about 600 years ago. Our last stop for the day is Blenheim Palace which is located in the county of Oxfordshire. Blehnheim Palace sits on 2500 acres and is enclosed by a stone wall nine ... read more
