A bunch of posers outside the York Church.
Maria, Lindsay and Claire hamming it up for the camera. On way to London
Lots of motorway driving
Which equals naptime.
Quiet evening last night. It was spent as predicted doing some laundry. I chatted with a few of my roomies. There was a woman from LA. She’s a school teacher and this is her second trip to Scotland. Then there was Maria from Australia.
Maria as it turns out was on the seven day Full Monty from London last week and is returning on the same bus as me tomorrow morning. What a small world! She really wanted to go on a scary walking tour since someone she was talking to said they went on the walking tour and took this picture and when they went to review the photo there was this red face that appeared that was not there previously. Anyhoo, she wanted to go but was too scared to go on her lonesome and was trying to convince me, a complete stranger I might add, to go along with her. 1) I’m not into paying to get the bejeebies scared out of me (unless of course there was a tall, dark and handsome fella next to me that I could grab onto for protection!) and
In the streets of Beverley.
As you can tell by the lack of pedestrians, the town of Beverley closes up shop pretty early! Left to right: Claire, Maria, Bon and Lindsay. 2) I just finished doing my laundry and was in my nice, warm, dry and cosy pj’s and didn’t feel like going out into the cold and wet weather again.
Then I got talking to Paul who is also from the LA area. Then it was the three of us, me, Maria and Paul chatting for a good two to three hours. I had to throw the towel in about midnight because I was getting really sleepy. I’m not sure how much longer those two talked but I do know it was some time after lights out!
It was cute that Maria asked a favour of me this morning to get Paul’s email address for her. 😊
Anyhoo, Maria and I headed up to the Haggis office in the rain this morning after breakfast and eventually checked in and stood around waiting for bus number 5 to show up. Eventually our driver, Rab, came along and we unloaded our stuff and we were soon on our way South. There will be a lot of motorway driving today. But that’s okay since the weather is pretty wet and miserable out there. We had a morning stop in Flodden
Dinner at the Rose Pub.
Left to right: Maria, Brett, Lindsay, Claire and Me! field where big battles have taken place and then we had another stop to pick up something for breakfast and/or lunch so of course I stopped off for some baked goods! Yummers!
In the afternoon we were dropped off in York where we had a two hour stop to explore the town (or is it a city?) I ended up wandering the wet streets with Maria, Lindsay and Claire. We stopped off at a bakery to pick up a few nibblie’s since we were all feeling a bit snacky at this point and then headed towards the York Church. We soon found out that the admission fee was £5 so we all said, no thank you! We continued our walk past some of the market stalls and then took a walk around the Wall surrounding the city. It was a nice walk above the city. Not too much to see but it did keep us out of trouble. Lol
After two hours of wandering it was back to the bus and off to Beverley for tonight’s accommodations. We went to the Rose Pub and I had a lovely vegetable curry for dinner. It’s weird that they asked whether I wanted chips or rice served with my curry. I ended up asking if I could get half chips and half rice and boy did I end up with a huge pile of carbs on my plate! Brett who is also on our tour joined us for dinner.
It ended up being a pretty quiet night in the common room and with the fireplace blazing it was quite a cozy place. We played a bit of Trivial Pursuit and once again I have confirmation that I know nothing! Lol
Oh yes, at dinner time Lindsay posed questions to the bunch of us that I thought were really though provoking. I can’t quite remember all of the questions but if memory serves me correctly they were something like this…
• What is the best thing that happened to you in your life?
• Who is the most interesting person you have met and why?
• Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
Lindsay has the idea that she will start a book and start writing down people’s responses. How intriguing especially if you asked the same three questions to the same people over time and looked to see how their answered changed or didn’t change.

Chips with everything!
It used to be a standing joke in England that you get "chips with everything" (french fries as we known them in the States). being an old codger from UK, I always take the chips - they taste so different than the crap they serve at Micky D's, and to my way of thinking, enhance any English meal, and your waistline of course! I was staying in Beverly last July 2006, at the Beverly Arms Hotel. Not a bad hotel, and yes, I did stop in at the Rose Pub for a pint of my favorite brew.
