Night shot
One of the eerie nights. This picture is not great but if you strain your eyes enough you can get the idea of what it looks like. I got back from the Lake District of Northern England late on Sunday night after a dreadful 7 hour coach ride.
We began our trip at 6:45am on Friday the 14th. We left Enfield (Katie, Stephanie, and still drunken me) at 6:45 am. Yes, I was up only because Katie called and got me up. When I left I couldn’t find my keys to my dorm but being still completely pissed I just left without them. We ventured by the overground rail to the underground to Nottinghill gate to get on a coach bus for 7 hours to head to Keswick (Cumbria) where we would be residing at GlaraMara Mountain.
The drive to Glaramara was actually quite astounding. The country part of England is very beautiful. The rolling hills, green grass, grazing cattle and sheep, and crop (can’t remember main one) are all very serene.
Outside of our room window, about 10 feet from the window were grazing sheep and a fence made of stone. The place were we stayed is about 8 miles down a winding road from the nearest town, Keswick. The scenery around the house we stayed at was almost breathtaking. Some stone fences that are
Streams
One of the babbling brooks near our house. still used for sheep cattle and land barriers scale up over the mountains, it’s inconceivable that people actually built these fences that far up the mountain. At night the mountains looked almost eerie. The mist and fog that loomed among the mountains with the bright light of the moon filling the sky made it seem like I was in some sort of ghost movie set in England.
Okay, enough of that junk, onto the fun stuff:
On Saturday I went rock climbing on a wall, we were suppose to actually climb on the real stuff but because there were so many of us we had to go to a place where there was a wall. I also went repelling down a wall, which was pretty exciting. But the most fun part of the trip was gorge scrambling. It’s kind of hard to describe so I’m going to quote the description in the provided information given to us. It involves climbing, sliding, ducking, and diving in a narrow river following the flow down the hillside…jumping off rocks in to the pools of water below.” We were given wetsuits and helmets (ya, I looked really cool in that gear =) and
Our House
This was the House/Hostel we stayed in. It was sort of like a Bed and Breakfast. A small bar, commons room with a fire place, drying room for wet clothes and shoes, and a small dinning room. we got to dive and go down these little waterfalls backwards into a pool of water below. One of the jumps we went on, no other option going down, was between a huge rock and a cliff. The instructor told us that we had to aim for a particular spot and just jump straight down. He then continued on to tell us he was going to stand on the big rock and push us away from it to make sure we don’t hit it. The pool in which we jumped into was referred to as the washing machine because it pushed you around the water like you were a rag doll but OH what fun it all was!!!!
We didn’t do much on Sunday. There were some planned activities that we could have participated in but not required. I slept in and read outside on the porch, it was very relaxing and a great opportunity to sit outside and read a good book being that at my campus here there is not ONE bench to sit and read on.
The ride back was long and uncomfortable. We came back to our meeting point in London to find that
Stream Again
Lake District most of our trains back to Enfield were not working. We took the tube to one stop and then had to get on yet another bus for an hour back to Enfield only to find that the bus didn’t actually go to our part of Enfield, so we then proceeded to walk about a ½ mile back to our dorms. But it was all worth it!!!!
This coming weekend a bunch of girls and I are off to the Scotland Highlands. We are staying in a castle turned youth hostel that is supposed to be haunted, we’ll see. But It’s going to probably be one of my last trips for awhile because a lot of essays and work are due next month and I want to get my final essays completed before the last week (December 12-16).
Speak to you soon!

P.S. These photos were taken by Stephanie not me. Me, being the dumbass that I am, forgot to pack my camera.
