top of mt snowdon
can't see the top it's wreathed in mist - just beautiful but absolutely FREEZING!! Hi All,
The one thing that is driving me mad about blogging is that we don't always have access to the internet! Unfortunately a couple of blogs have arrived out of order - thought that I'd sent them but had only saved them . Anyway, here is the next installment.
Caernarfon was ok, the B&B was comfortable but needed redecorating. We had a stroll around the city when we got there and decided to see the castle and ride the railway to the top of Mt. Snowdon the next day. We were up early and decided to do the train trip first as we had to drive up the mountain to meet the train. A dinky little cog railway took us up the mountain - fantastic views, the photos don't do them justice - absolutely FREEZING, blowing a gale and still vestiges of snow on the ground - the top of Snowdon was wreathed with mist so we couldn't see the very top. We were jammed into the carriages like sardines which was a bit uncomfortable but worth it just for the views. Back to Caernarfon and armed with our map we head to the castle
tardis toilet
This is the weirdest toilet/bathroom we have ever come across - from the hotel in Chester. - I don't have to tell you do I - there was an official function on with squads of police and more rollers than you could wish for - never mind there will be more castles to look at.
Off to Chester and the strangest place we have stayed so far. The hotel was run by a family from Libya. Our room was huge but there was hardly any furniture in it, just twin beds and a chair for the inbuilt dressing table. The real killer was the toilet-cum-shower - it was straight out of a second class overnight sleeper onboard a British Rail train. It was perched in the corner of the room and when you opened the door you had to step up into a completely selfcontained plastic tardis . The photo hardly does it justice - we laughed like drains when we saw it! It was increadibly difficult to use and a real danger when exiting the module. I recon the owner bought a job lot from one of his muzza mates who worked for British Rail, it's what you would expect from Del Boy and Rodney . Chester itself is lovely
- lots of half-timbered buildings, the old city walls and Roman ruins. We met a lovely retired Methodist minister in the pub , he invited us to come and have a bite of lunch at the Methodist Cafe the next day . We visited Chester Cathedral and the beautiful ancient church of St. John the Baptist which is belived to be the oldest Cathedral in the UK. It was founded by King Aethelred of Mercia in 689 - just stunning!
We're happily ensconced in Keswick in the Lake District, our first 2 day stop. Did the washing at the laudrette last night - shouldn't have to wash the heavier clothing now until we come home, sox & undies aren't a problem you can do them as you go. B&B is just lovely - comfy bed, good bathroom, yummy brekkie in a delightful dining room. It took as about 40 frustrating minutes to find the place - roadworks in the middle of the villiage with trafic diverted everywhere - bloody hell, what a mess!!! Visited the 'Cars of the Stars' museum this morning - they have the original cars from
two frozen milinkovics
Here we are frozen together on our trip around Lake Ullswater on a little steam boat - just beautiful. heaps of movies - Batmobiles, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Delorian from Back to the Future, KIT from Nightrider, 2 cars from Fast & Furious, Lady Penelopy's rolls royce from Thunderbirds and lots of others - well worth a look. Had a very relaxing afternoon cruising on lake Ullswater in a little steam ferry - beautiful, beautiful place - the lake district is just glorious. Going to the local brewery tomorrow and to the Derwent pencil museum then on to Carlisle and Hadrians Wall tomorrow.
Have just about got rid of the huge bruise on my thigh - got jabbed in the leg by one of those triangular turnstyles when we were in London and came up in a bruise the size of a saucer with a big haematoma in the middle - black as your hat!! I was quite worried about flying when it was at it's worst but have been taking an asprin before I fly - still glad it's almost gone, it's been quite sore when I walk and there has been plenty of that over the last couple of weeks. We're both well, a bit sunburned after being on the water and my R knee is
giving me jip - kept me awake last night - other than that we're fit as fleas.
That's it folks - look for the next installment in a couple of days...................
Love to you all,
Dee & Steve xxxx
