Weather Report

Warm and sunny with strong east wind.

Itinerary

Babraham - Great Abington - Little Abington - Hildersham - Linton - Balsham - West Wratting - Brinkley - Burrough Green - Carlton - West Wickham - Horseheath

This proved to be a hard day in the saddle - perhaps I just cannot count. Anyway something over 50 miles with numerous stops making for about eleven hours on the road.

Delightful countryside in that subdued English way you find nowhere else. Gently rolling landscape clothed in intensive arable softened by an abundance of thick hedges, clumps of trees and copse. The regular spacing of settlements usually no more than two or three miles apart is typical of the East Anglian landscape described by many theoretical geographers. Virtually every settlement regardless of size has its own medieval church many with interesting characteristics and all typically built in local flint. Thatched cottages are commonplace and many are quite pretty with a variety of colours clothed in ivy.
