Maidan Nezalezhnosti, Kyiv
Kevin and public art in the quiet square. Kyiv, Ukraine
Wednesday – left directly from school –
QSI International School of Minsk - 19 of us teachers
flew Belavia from Minsk, Belarus to Kyiv, Ukraine – 1 hour
1 hour time change back
money change at the airport
would only change $100 because they only had very small bills
15 hryvnia/$1US – Ukrainian money
I received all 20 hryvnia bills
each a little more than $1
fat pile – I could barely squeeze them in my wallet
arrive by school bus to “luxurious” 7 Days Hotel
small double bed and 1 cot
request for a bigger bed so Kevin and I could sleep together
met with “all reserved”
back to ‘non-smoking’ room – carpet covered in cigarette burns
but relatively comfortable
supermarket on 1
st floor
breakfast on 2
nd floor with a health club
buildings here are not dedicated to only one purpose
the only sign of civil war – a floundering economy
everything seems inexpensive compared to Belarus
Professional Development – I gave a workshop
on science inquiry boards
we did a pendulum (physical science) investigation
success
Job-alike meeting
with other teachers - very helpful
we 8 year old teachers set up our own EdModo web site
to stay connected and share resources
Thanksgiving dinner at the school
school cafeteria cooked turkey and all the trimmings
local staff provided deserts and appetizers
Two helpings and I was stuffed – just like home
could have had more pumpkin pie – just saying
Friday - excellent dinner at Arabian restaurant – Sesam
Cave-like interior – tasteful, but on the edge of kitschy
humus, lamb, Kabuli Palaw – yumm!
Chernobyl tour met at Maidan Nezalezhnosti
the birthplace of the now one-year old civil unrest
and ultimate overthrow of the pro-Russian government.
Very quiet, but many flowers covered by a blanket of snow.

It's probably good that your are out of the country!
Great succinct commentary! Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to stay in contact. Left wing of the Democratic Party is pulling a Tea Party manuaver - and rightly so! Republicans have begun giving away the family jewels to "Too Large To Fail Banks" and "Larger than LIfe" rich donors.
