Switzerland...where to go?

I am traveling to Switzerland from Amsterdam with four adults and four children 4yr, 5yr, 5yr, 7yr) in late August. I am looking for suggestions of where to go and stay for a week. I would like to rent a house in a small touristy town. I would like to be near hiking. I would love to be near a lake. Although I would like a small town, I would like to be able to make it there rather directly by train from Amsterdam.

Does anyone have any suggestions in terms of regions and/or specific towns?
