Although Tuesday started with low cloud the forecast was for brighter things so we set off just beyond Brienz to Ballenburg to look around the open-air museum of Swiss buildings. We have visited similar set ups in the UK like Avoncroft, near Bromsgrove, and the Weald and Downland, Sussex, but this was impressive and on a large scale.

They have reconstructed over 100 buildings from all regions of Switzerland, many with interiors and fittings to match. You are pretty much free to roam where you please with the exhibits mainly unchained so that you can get up close - no over powering stewards telling you not to touch. Several of the buildings have compounds or shelters for animals including fowl, pigs, goats, cows and donkeys.
