We met to day with a wonderful lady, Claire Lise. She is a friend of our Canadian friends, Hans and Debbie Frick. They suggested we get in touch with Claire Lise and spend some time together. Coincidentally her home was only about 5 - 6 Km's away from our place. As the heat wave was still continuing we decided not to travel too far. We met and wandered through our local Ferney-Voltaire Saturday market which was fantastic. Beautiful breads, vegetables, cheeses, meat, eggs, clothing, chickens with their heads still attached?. Terrific stuff, but with only a day or so to go, we didn't purchase much but just took in the wonderful sights and aromas of the market.

As we were getting very hot after a
The Famous Monsieur Voltaire
Au Patriarche de Ferney - 1758 couple of hours in the market, we found a very nice restaurant for lunch where we could cool off in the air conditioning and share a delicious lunch of Thai and Chinese food. It was a lovely restaurant with excellent food. Such a pleasant break. Claire Lise had some wonderful ideas for our afternoon and evening, so we pressed on.
We got into the car to go to Claire Lise's home (just across the border in Versoix, Switzerland) where she gave us a quick tour of her wonderful home. She runs a B and B, so we had a tour of each room. A very cozy Swiss home. Back into the car and on we went to the town of Nyon, Switzerland. Located on the shores of Lake Geneva, Nyon is a beautiful medieval town. Claire Lise suggested we take a ride on the mini train which gives a short tour around the Old Town. Beautiful homes, gardens and churches and fountains everywhere. Very very old buildings, many built from stones and rocks. Amazing! Once we came full circle on our train ride, we strolled for a little while along the shores of Lake Geneva until our boat arrived
Fountain in Ferney Voltaire
Wonderful cool water - Almost all fountains in Switzerland are drinkable. for the next part of our adventure.....
We boarded our boat and took a pleasant, breezy 15 minute ride across Lake Geneva to the village of Yvoire (the Village of Flowers? ?????). We were now back in France! So many flowers, we have never seen. They were everywhere, just spilling out over the flower boxes in all colours and shapes. So beautiful. Loved every second of this beautiful medieval village with its cobblestone streets and flowers. And luck was with us when we heard music and discovered that the Yvoire Jazz Festival was going in full swing with a live jazz band playing in the main square. We paused for a while to enjoy the music. There was a fair sized crowd enjoying the music and some cool drinks on this hot hot day.
We stopped at a Creperie for some supper crepes and then took our time strolling back to the boat harbour for our return boat trip across Lake Geneva to Nyon (Switzerland). We have traveled back and forth between France and Switzerland all day today. It's amazing. Back into the car and A short drive and we are back to Claire Lise's home
Le Pain. Beautiful Bread
Ferney Market - fresh bread to sit in her lovely garden where Wayne picked black raspberries and we enjoyed the cool evening air. I heard a little bit of scuffling about under the bushes and asked Clair Lise what it was. "Oh, that is my friendly hedgehog". And, out he came onto the grass and up the garden walkway towards here home. Fantastic, we were so amused with this little critter, just going about his everyday business. Cute!
It was getting late and time for us to go back to our place. We had had an amazing day with a wonderful lady and new friend. She packed us up with a little care package of cheese and bread for our breakfast (petit dejuner). Merci beacoup, Claire Lise. A short drive back to our flat and we said our good byes, it was truly a very special day! Life is good ☺️.
