Day 3 – Paris to Lauterbrannen, Swiss Alps, Switzerland
New Year’s Day -Tuesday 1st January 2013
Magnificent Swiss scenery is on display today as we travel to our base in the Swiss Alps.
All aboard the coach were very tired people all quiet and sleepy for the morning. A couple of hours in, we were awake and playing games on the coach that Carly set up. They were so funny. Then she put one of the best films on of all time. Taken. Oh yes. And as we had just spent 2 days in Paris where the film was set, it was even more fun to watch. Unfortunately Carly had never seen it and she stopped it right at the most important part. A chorus of ‘hey what you doin’ and she put it back on ‘Sorry was only gonna say we are stopping for lunch in 5’. Then she realised why the protests once she saw the next scene. OMG.
So lunch was in a service station in Austria. The scenery was beautiful, driving through the mountains. We arrived at our campsite in
the dark, but you could still see the might of the granite and the awe of snow was visible on all of the Aussie and South African guys faces. After settling into our log cabins, (I was sharing with Michelle, Casey and Charlene), we went into the bar and had dinner and then the fun really started. The bar was ours all night, with music and the girls behind the bar joining in the entertainment. This was our New Years Eve take 2! It started out innocently enough. A fairly tame round of ‘Never Have I Ever’ landed us a bit tipsy and a few secrets came out. I became good friends with Dominique that night. There was lots of drinking, dancing and flirting. Hanging from the ceiling were beer mats that people wrote messages on to leave for the next group. There were some very funny notes suspended. I think ours are going to be talked about quite a lot!
It was only the second night of the trip and I was getting to know people in a new light! I had earned the 'librarian' moniker which quickly turned into 'Mary Poppins'. I hope that was
just for me being English and not boring! More drinking and Domino convinced me to go to bed. However, we had second thoughts and went back to the party. What we had missed in 5 minutes was not clear, but all the boys had their shirts off and then Purple Rain came on. Quite a surreal night I can tell you. We finally retired and let the boys get on with it, with the more hard core non sleepy people. I stumbled back to my room in the dark trying to be quiet and not wake anyone else! I don't think I succeeded in that respect! Bring on the mountain tomorrow.
