Day 4: Paris, France to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland Saturday, October 10th, 2009 The fourth day of our trip was spent mostly on the bus driving from Paris, France to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland. The view coming into Switzerland was quite beautiful. When we finally got to our campsite, we learned that we needed to pay for hot showers. I guess hot water is a luxury in Switzerland ;-)
After we settled into our cabins, we had dinner in the Topdeck tent where we were served traditional Swiss cuisine, which included cheese fondue. I don't know about you, but I am more of a chocolate lover. I love chocolate fondue. I found the cheese fondue to be too rich and liquored up (which could be a good thing ;-).
After a mediocre dinner, we congregated in the bar at the campsite. The bar had this cool game where we raced each other to see who could get a nail into this log the fastest. I know, sounds lame but it really is fun when you try it ;-) The campsite also had internet, but it had an old outdated dial up connection that took forever to load. So we decided to wait
for our next destination to access it. After a night of partying, we got ready for bed for a long day tomorrow in Switzerland. Some people, partied way too much as we could hear them through the paper thin walls separating our cabins. Let’s just say that we could hear more that just partying in the cabin next to us, and the girl apparently had a boyfriend back home too.
Day 5: Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland Sunday, October 11th, 2009 We woke up the next morning, to our neighbours’ hangovers and their expressive search for their belongings. We found out that the guy fell asleep on the girl twice during their sexual encounter, which was pretty funny. I guess it wasn’t that good ;-)
A lot on the group was still hung over and missed the train up the Jungfrau Mountain (their loss). The train ride, was amazing, although my ears kept popping the view was breathtaking. At the top of the Jungfrau Mountain, we saw a pretty awesome ice palace, where again I tended to go overboard on my pictures. I tend to do that a lot on this trip :-) We also got to see all of
Switzerland from the mountain, which was incredible.
When we got back to Lauterbrunnen, I wanted to see the waterfall nearby but it was a little too late, so a group of us decided to go exploring near the campsite. We saw a couple of our fellow Topdeckers skydiving from above (I can never do that, way too scary!!!) and also a cow crossing. The cows had these cute little bells around there necks, that rang whenever they moved.
As the night progressed we discovered that five people took our tour guide’s challenge of taking a picture of themselves buck naked on top of Jungfrau Mountain, in order to receive a prize. The five people that did it were all Australian. Surprise!! Surprise!!! And they all received a shot on booze. They really got guts!!!
So that marked the end of an exciting time in Switzerland. Next stop Pisa, and Florence, Italy.
