What a great weekend! I spent this past weekend in Lugano with about 15 other people who decided to stay around the city this weekend. It was fun but also relaxing. On Friday me Allie and Brittany went to the park and played around on the kiddie toys and then just sat and talked in the sun because the weather was so nice. Then we headed back to the Montarina and we all hung out and Brittany and I watched a movie in my room and had dinner together.
On Saturday I got up and ate breakfast outside on our little porch overlooking the mountains and lake since it was so beautiful and then me Brittany, Allie and Caitlin got ready and went to hike up Mount Bre. It was really neat to be able so spend time in nature and experience God's beauty here in Europe. The weather was so beautiful and the hike was really nice. It was a windy little hike but the views overlooking the city and the lake were so pretty. Once we got back into town we decided to walk around and look at all the shops and we got lucky because they were
having a yard sale/market in the afternoon so we kind of just browsed through all of the stuff and then headed back to the Montarina after looking around for a while. Then me and Brittany went to the train station to grab some food to make for dinner. We eat got a little pizza and came back and had dinner and then since it was "officially" St. Patricks Day everyone who was here for the weekend wanted to celebrate together so we all went to one of the local bars - Peter Pan- and hung out and then about 2 hours later a couple of us headed back to the Montarina to just talk and watch another movie. We put one in but about an hour into it we had all fallen asleep so we decided to just turn the movie off and make it an early night.
Sunday (my 21st birthday) I woke up to many birthday wishes and a present that mom had sent for me to open on my birthday which was a very special treat! I decided that since it was also Palm Sunday I would like to go try out this english speaking church
Serious Hikers
Me, Brittany, Allie and Caitlin that I had read about online instead of going to the usual Catholic church I've attended in Lugano. I am soooo glad I had a chance to go and Allie and Stacy joined me which was also a nice treat. The people were awesome and the message was so great. It was nice to be able to worship with people who speak your language. It was a little embarrassing though because at the end of church the pastor said "I forgot to ask- is it anyone's birthday this week?" So I raised my hand and the whole congregation wished me a happy birthday! After church they had refreshments and so we decided to go and have some with the congregation. We ended up meeting a really nice couple from California who had just moved to Lugano about 6 months ago. We chatted with them for awhile and they recommended trying out this American style bowling alley near by, so we decided that's what we would do to celebrate my birthday. So when we got back to the Montarina we gathered everyone up and we headed down to the bus stop but we just missed the bus by a few minutes so we decided instead of waiting for the next bus (which was in 2 hours) we headed back to play cards and hang out. We played cards for a while and then headed to grab some food to bring back to the Montarina to make and eat while we watched The Devil Wears Prada. So after the movie was over I headed back to my room to get online to talk to mom and dad- which was really nice because it was hard to not have any family around on my birthday. Then after I talked to them I had a chance to talk to Erica which was also a pleasure. I had a GREAT birthdy and a great day!
Today, we decided we would sleep in and then when we all woke up we got ready and headed to Fox Town and shop at the outlet stores. We had a good time but it was kind of dissappointing because all of the shops were designer stores, so even though they were discounted it was still way more than any of us could afford. But we had a nice time and then we came home to relax, catch up on some things and then we had our usual weekly Montarina provided dinner- which was delicious as always.
Now I'm just hanging out and relaxing and getting really excited about having mom come and visit Paris with me. We are going to have a great time and I'm so excited to see Paris!! ...well, until next time!! Grace and Peace!
