Up We GoUp We GoUp We Go

Looking back at Lauterbrunnen as we ascend in the cable car.
We awoke to the predicted overcast skies and rain in the valley, but thought we might escape it if we went above it to the top of the ridge, and do some hiking between the small villages up there. We took the cable car up only to be greeted by gentle flakes of snow that were beginning to fall. Not to be thwarted, we took the tram to Murren, instead of hiking there, and did the shorter, but certainly more picturesque hike (at least on this day when there were again no views of the valley below to be had) from there to Gimmelwald.

It was a delightful little hike, and not at all uncomfortable. Lots of classic photo ops, which are shared with you below. At the opposite end of the ridge, we took the cable car back down into the valley from Gimmelwald to Stechelberg , and walked into the tiny town for lunch at the hotel--the only restaurant in town! After warming up with brats and beer, we took the bus back towards Lauterbrunnen, but got off at Trummelbach Falls, a series of 10 glacial waterfalls that flow through the mountain down into the valley. an elevator that hauls you up to the top most fall, then you walk the stairs and ramps that have been built in the interior of the mountainside to view the rest of them. It was beautiful, but hard to capture on film, although as you can see below, we tried anyway...

Back in Lauterbrunnen, we enjoyed a “last supper” in Switzerland, pigging out on cheese fondue and rosti.

All that rushing water becomes a lazy little creek that joins with the Weisse Lutschine River which runs the length of Lauterbrunnen Valley.
