(this is written in Strasbourg on 22/9 so ability to write/post has been somewhat limited)
After a rather long sleep - it was Sunday of course, but I was rather tired out after having a restless night in Paris thinking of my trip to Switz. to see Gisele and Francois after all these years - I awoke with somewhat of a start at 10.20. Francois had done his Sunday chore of collecting about 5 different types of bread and rolls from 2 different bakeries to enjoy with their homemade jam and coffee. Then the lunch project was to drive the car up the hill someway - Delemont is in a long valley but there are steepish hills on either side.
Then to walk cross country through the forest to a farmhouse type lunch place, a type that has apparently become quite popular - where they smoke their own ham and meats and serve them in a restaurant. This had a large open area of tables as well and it just happened that Francois' Mum and Dad also happened to be there (this was not planned) finishing up lunch, as with our forest walk of some 45 mins we did not

reaching lunch - the final steps get there til 3pm. Of course the Swiss must enjoy the sunshine when they can with a long winter! I must say that the weather has been splendid all along (so far) and the late summer blue sky weather has been glorious - although the weather forecasts always seem to be somewhat pessimistic about possible cloud and showers. .
Anyway lunch for me was a sort of charcuterie plate of the ham of the bone and some other smoked meats and some salad - white and purple cabbage featuring. Choucroute/sauerkraut, being close to the German side of Switz. is quite popular, but this was simply like coleslaw not brewed! It was very pleasant sitting out in the sun avec la famille and enjoying the food, with a small bottle of the local Swiss gamay red wine, followed by some sorbets and coffee.
Then it was a walk back via a different pathway thru a part of the forest that became somewhat more impassable and wild so we found the road which lead us to the car. In a paddock there were some horses and

sauce pour on Mum's sundae some cows - the cows all have bells around their necks and altho only 4 of them made quite a (pleasant) racket with the bells almost continually ringing when the cows are grazing - must drive them crazy but I guess they must tune out.
Gisele took me to a viewpoint over the valley and town and we more or less located where their house was. Then it was back home to have a light dinner of bread and cheese - including the special cheese created so that it can be shaved off a round block with a special turning mechanism (la girrole) - the cheese is called "la tete du moin" - the head of the monk, as it mimics the monk's tonsure. This creates what looks like a cheese flower/spiral. As it was a "school night" for Monday the children were off to bed, and I watched with Francois his favourite French chat show on TV - not exactly understanding a lot due to the swift speech.

Bells, and cheese.
Hi Mike, What a neat blog! How nice to see "ole" friends in their lifestyle, and parents along the way. The walk along your journey sounded great, no cowbells in Nuu Zilland for us, just as well. Monks head and wine glass photo says it all. Love Huddo and girls.
