We met Pascal Behr at “the meeting place,” by the big clock at the Zurich train station. We were greeted with a big swiss-german hug and a smile from ear to ear. It has been harder to make conversation with women since leaving London. In Amsterdam women are a bit guarded, something I can totally understand, and the women in Switzerland have their own agenda (atleast that is my impression for the duration of my stay). The woman sitting next us while we ate breakfast was my first attempt at a counter-part swiss-german conversation. She was dressed all in black and quietly drank her coffee while Pascal, Ryan, and I were catching up- excitement flowed throughout all of us. I didn’t know how to start a conversation, so when the opportunity arrived for her to take a picture of us, I jumped on it. After taking a pic, I asked her if she was traveling. She didn’t understand much, so I quickly said - “Do you speak English,” and she replied, “A little.” Then I asked Pascal to translate what I asked. He assumed she was working here and asked her this, then explained that I’m American and that I like to make conversation. She nodded and went about her breakfast. Haha, I was shot down All I wanted to know was maybe what she did, but I guess that’s not normal in Switzerland! So, we said nothing until another 15 minutes passed and she left - saying “Tschüss.” According to Pascal, our minimal conversation was somewhat of a success based on the fact that she used an informal way of saying goodbye… I think that’s a copout and that she was quite annoyed - but only God knows 😉
Zurich was about 50F. It had been this cold for 3 weeks! Weird weather for July, o my! To make a semi-long story short (because I have some great business-class food cooling next to me on the plane to EGYPT), we met Dodo (Dominik, Pascal’s brother), I ran around their home in Buchberg- to a church with a beautiful view of the valley, we tried to get some hawk/falcons to eat meat off the yard (they came but, conveniently, while we weren’t watching!), and Pascal, Dodo, and I went out to downtown Zurich to a young-people dance club called Mascotte - we made it home at 4:00am, just enough time to have 1.25 hours of sleep, more than adequate for a half-day trip to Egypt!!!
Hi, this is Dodo taking over the writing. I just want to tell you about a nice friend, Ryan met at Mascotte. There was a little dance floor at the club, were Ryan wanted to go to check some women. Although I told him that there are only guys up there, he convinced me to come with him and shake up there.. After a little while a strange guy wearing a white wife beater came up the place and tried to hook up with Ryan or I don’t know how to say it in English. Since Ryan was looking for girls and not boys, he wasn’t amused when that guy put his hand on Ryan’s shoulder. So Ryan pushed that guys hand away and told him in French that he should get off. I then asked the guy in German what he’s problem was, but he didn’t answer. He kept going for Ryan, taking and touching him like a strange weirdo. That was too much for me and for Ryan of course, so we left the dance floor (it turned out that I was right telling Ryan that there were only guys up the dance floor, but anyway). After a while Ryan went back there by himself and shwups his friend came back and kept annoying Ryan. I don’t know all the details about that part but it finally turned out that Ryan was really turning that guy mad by provoking him whit the worst French words he could remember and by throwing some terribly bad looks at him. The guy totally turned crazy and developed the intention to punch Ryan and start a fight. Well then Jason realized how tense the situation got and went to protect his brother. Then I saw the strange guy coming from the side, trying to hit Ryan, but then Jason, Pascal and I tried to push the stranger away. Since Ryan kept provoking him with a nice smile, complete with tiger claws (addition by Jason), the guy didn’t want to quit and was really heading for fight, we went to get a security guy to take care of him. Ryans new friend finally ended up being thrown out of the club by security. Yeah!
