Blake, as a warning, grab a beer. Or two anyways. At least.
Anyways, now that we've put that aside, day two went swimmingly. After my last post I basically just got myself ready for the day and bombed down to Zurich at around 1. I got there about 2.5 hours before I was supposed to meet with Katharina and Andreas (both of whom say hi to you and the family DAD). Anyways, during this time I decided to walk around Zurich with no real clear idea of where I was going nor where I was... but stumbled across a tiny coffee shop alongside the canal. The prices were fair and the beer was cold so it was a good place to stop for a drink.
There I ended up meeting some guy that owned a restaurant down the street who had been to Vancouver Island and gone whale watching, etc. Which apparently is very good and I should check out. Anyways, (anyways), I ended up staying there for about two hours talking to different people when they came in (so long as they knew English). My most interesting conversation happened to be with a
Stairs
Super skinny stairs going up. Ding. Anyways. fellow about 60 years old who came in, asked me if the seat next to me was taken, sat down, ordered a beer, slammed his beer, paid, and left. I cheersed him has he walked out the door. Beauty.
Anyways, further along, I soon walked back to the train station, carefully retracing my steps as though I had left a trail of bread crumbs behind (which I didn't, they would have certainly been eaten by birds and other mammals) to meet with Katharina and Andreas. The train station saw many (2) interesting things happen.
* 1) A random girl came up to me and started speaking in German... of course, with my knowledge of German, I simply responded with "I have no idea what you are saying, I am sorry" which was met with a disapproving glare and a firm walk away and
* 2) some guy (apparently from Italy) asked me a question (I assumed "what time is it?"... only because he pointed at his wrist) and responded with (in English) "Five minutes to three". He started speaking to me in German again, at which point I had to drop the bomb again... Then he started speaking to me in french. That one I knew, but his accent was so heavy that I had to get him to repeat himself over and over again.
Anyways, after those confrontations, I met with Katharina (Andreas unfortunately was sick for most of the trip) who gave me a quite wonderful tour of the old part of the city, etc. I have a ton of pictures that I will be able to show. Anyways (Blake, this pertains to you, but I'll link so everyone knows what I'm talking about), we ended up going up a flight of stairs in a church (they were quite skinny and steep... Blake... If you don't know where this is going drink for these three "anyways" ... anyways... anyways... anywyas (the first one you drink for no matter what)) we made it up to the top and I took more pictures. Then went back down the skinny stairs. (here's the link for those of you who don't know [URL=
After walking around a bit more we went into a pub at the top of some tower, it was a nice view, packed with talent, and Andreas met us there. We did the file transfer of all the good pictures from diving, watched most of them, then went for dinner.
At dinner we met with Andreas daughter and 2 of her friends, it was a sick restaurant with a movie theme, but it was the most expensive place I've ever eaten. there were 35 dollar quesedillas on the menu. I ordered the cheapest thing - a club sandwich at 25 dollars. Ridiculous. Anyways, as we were sitting there who waltzes in but Sabrina!! It was hilarious and quite good to see her finally. She's a good kid. So we had a couple beers (actually only 1) then said goodbye to the Katharina and Andreas and the girls so we could figure out our gameplan for the rest of the time.
There. You are now up to speed on literally everything. And if you skipped to the end Blake, I'll be unimpressed and give you even more anyways in the next one, all at the end. It will be like that test where the teacher writes "please read all instructions before starting the test" then at the end writes the last instruction as "hand the test in unanswered".
Anyways, Sabrina and I have decided (about 30 minutes ago) that we are going to Paris tomorrow until Sunday. We have no restaurant reservations, no train tickets, and no hotel booked (dad, don't show this one to mom). The plan is to buy the train tickets at the station, then bomb out there and figure the rest out. Should be fun. Ding.
PS. Sabrina loved her jersey and has big plans for Paris. I am stoked she liked it.
PPS. Sabrina got me a REAL Swiss army knife. 18 tools and 7 electronic functions (seriously. need to know your altitude? check. Barometer? check. stopwatch? check. alarm clock? check. time? check. countdown? check. temperature? check.) and it has a bottle opener. Badass.
Anyways, I won't be posting for a couple of days, that's why there's so much in this one. Paris is coming next, it better be ready for us.
