Sal Whittall In his infinite wisdom, the Swedish king Gustavus Adolphus commisioned a warship with many cannons. So many cannons, their combined weight sank the boat while leaving the harbour in 1628.
300 years later, the Swedes decided to dredge it up from the seabed and restoring it. Nothing if not determined.
It really was interesting- the ship was beautiful, and it had the 15 skeletons found on board with some studies about their physiology, genetics and possessions which was surprisingly revealing. The carving was amazing, and it is lucky the Baltic sea allowed it to survive in such immaculate condition. The photos don't really do the scale or detail justice, and neither do my mangy ramblings...
