From the TV-shows Monty Python and Survivor to Swedish Cold War military heritage Draisine Last summer we spent half a day riding a draisine on Dellen Railway. We absolutely loved doing that. It was so much fun that we have decided to do this maybe once a year. There are about 30 places in Sweden where it is possible to ride draisine so we won't run out of options for this activity in the nea... Read Full Entry

When the fish migrate up the river they are easy to catch. When they rest, all you need is a hand net to sweep them up.

The tour we wanted to join was full and we would've had to wait one hour for a tour that we could get a ticket for. That was not an option. We saw the little of the fortress that was visible from above

Wow! The border was CLOSE!
I don't know if you were actually most further out at the jetty, but when looking and measuring att Google Earth, one might actually be right at the border to Finland when walking to the end of the jetty. It is not more than 154 meters across, and the jetty seems to end at 77 meters...

Did I enter Finland?
What if the end if the jetty was 1 meter across the border? Does that mean that I actually entered Finland? Would that count as being abroad? If so, then it would be the first time I am since March 2020. /Ake

I think these rapids are quite safe
The rapids in Kukkolaforsen are quite safe I think. I know that whitewater rafting elsewhere is performed in much wilder waters. /Ake

I'm sorry they took it down but glad people can still see it.

It's a pity
It's a pity they did that. Also, there were more of those humerous crosswalk signs. The others we didn't see. It would have been fun to walk oround in Haparanda and find them one by one. It would have been a great way to explore the town. /Ake

Norrbotten
Dinner on the bridge sounds great. What a magnificent idea. Riding the draisine sounds great. We will have to give that a try.

They only have it for about two weeks
They only have that for about two weeks every summer and only one seating per day. We were lucky to be among the maybe 30 people who got to eat the dinner on the river last year. /Ake

North Sweden
Wow, the far north of Sweden - this is definitely somewhere I'd be interested in visiting, it looks amazing. I love the reindeer tunnel on the draisine ride, and your plan to go draisine riding every year! The meal on the river looks amazing too! Good old John Cleese - I agree, I think we also need to laugh more in life than we do. "Emma wasn't interested, and Ake can't see why" - lol, very funny! I would have firmly been in the Ake-camp here! ☺

We try our best
We try our best to find places that make our trips interesting and if it is also interesting to read it's good. It seems like we managed this time. Thanks for reading our blog. /Ake
