And so it begins...innocent so we were May 26, 2006 - After a mad rush to the train station, I caught the overnight train from Porto to Madrid. The train ride was quite swank as the only space they had available was a private sleeper car in first class. Best 100 Euro sleep I've ever had (Please note: only 100 Euro sleep I've ever had lol).
My arrival in Madrid was followed by a somewhat confusing half Spanish/half Portuguese conversation with a taxi driver in a mad rush to make it to the bus on time....where I waited, and waited...but that's another story.
Upon arrival at the bus stop I was greeted by the lovely Esther and met some of the very cool Anglos I would be spending the week with.
I rode on the bus with Sarian, who would later show me how to play (she played..I watched) House of the Rising Sun on my guitar...that I don't know how to play.
We arrived at L'Alberca about a million years later..after several rest stops. It's a hard travelling life when you get your own condo type thing to live in for a week. Oh, and did I mention the buffet breakfast and 2
Party
Party at Silvia's and my house (first night) - 3 course meals a day...and all the wine you can drink. And those of you who know me know that this is about as close to paradise as I get. Through in some hot men, some cool Spaniards and the occasional dancing opportunity and I'm all set.
The first night, after the bar closed, my roomate Silvia and I invited a core group of partyers back to our styling flat. I'm pleased to report that the Canadians represented our country well. Donna even scored an after hours bottle of wine...Kudos to Donna. About 4 a.m. the party started winding down and it was off to bed for me
...Only to be woken up by the most annoying wake up call in the world. It just kept ringing and ringing until finally I had to pick it up and yell at it...only to be told by my roommate that it was actually a recording.
Day 2 let to the beginning of the Fantastic Four. Daniel and Luis realized early on that they were soul mates and soon Steve and I were added to their couple - Mostly because we always laughed at their jokes. Luis is a
Sarian
Sarian male, Spanish version of me with a slightly dirtier mind and a good sight better looking I'm afraid. He even does theatre. Had I not felt sisterly towards him I would have had to take him back to Canada and make him my love slave.
Daniel was once a professional bowler and now works in computers...despite this he is actually good looking and a pretty cool person. Still waters run deep in that one. We spent a rocking time dancing to Franz Ferdinand and trying to learn how to dance Spanish style. I probably should apologize for my appalling lack of rhythm, but I had so much fun that I simply refuse to. One day he will realize that I am the one that got away...but alas..my heart is fickle and my attention span....what was I talking about? 😊
Which brings us to Steve? Or rather the man I am going to marry for a Green Card...or perhaps for the fact that we got along like bread and butter. Steve didn't even have to say anything funny for me to laugh by the end of the week..I had been so conditioned into laughing that he could have said
hat
Ham it up for the camera whatever and I would have been in hysterics. Steve has chucked his old life and is living a life of leisure in Madrid currently....It is my mission to make it back to visit him....
Rounding out our group (but not included in the title...because Fantastic Six just sounds dumb) are Zeona a 19 year old, gorgeous creature, who is going to be an amazing woman one day. At that stage in life made famous by Britney (Not a girl, not yet a woman..c'mon, you know what I'm talking about), Zeona is boldly travelling around Europe on her own...staying with some of the characters that I've stayed with through couchsurfing. Hopefully one day I will get to surf her couch in Hawaii.
And Coretta, aka Corey, our poet and all around great person. We bonded over a late night sharing session (something along the lines of - Why are men such idiots? and other random speculations). With her infectious laugh and Never say Die attitude Corey gets my respect and I hope eternal friendship. Stay in School Corey!!!!
Well once again my internet time is up, but stay tuned for the Life of Brian and Roving Roy!!
