HI All, Yes you read it right, I now wear my beanie to bed to keep warm. Jack wants a photo! No deal. Socks and sandals are one thing but me in a beanie tucked up in my sleeping bag is quite another. All I can say is roll on Paris and French lingerie. The night I blogged last was the coldest so far but there was a little reward the next day. The walk was only 14.5 km into Fromista and I decided to stay because the sky looked ominous and there had been some thunder. Miraculously the sky cleared later in the afternoon and I was able to enjoy a couple of wines at the bar next to the albergue in the SUN. All the cold and tension fell away as I realised how ... read more

Hi Everyone, How do I make a blog interesting when I am freezing cold and sick of the weather? What happened to sunny Spain? I figured you can´t just read about the good bits - you have to go through the pain too. The last week has been getting colder and colder and wetter. At the end of the walking day a lot of us just go to bed to get warm, (no not together) or else hang out in smokey bars. But there´s only so much Vino Tinto one can consume before dinner. I have checked the weather report and this will continue for at least the next 4 days, max 11C, wind chill 5C and rain (which translated means MUD). I am wearing thermals and 5 layers - my pack is lighter because I´m ... read more

Natalie here... We arrived in Burgos on the 11th...just in time to celebrate my 33rd in style! I was worried I would be stuck with a grocery store sandwich in a teeny tiny hilltown somewhere for my celebration dinner, so I was excited when we made the decision to go to Burgos. We arrived in the afternoon, and when I saw the grand cathedral in the plaza, I knew I would be in for some good food in this city. We sampled tapas from three different places where I was able to induldge in some of my Spanish favorites---tortilla Espanol, queso, and vino tinto. Of course we did our best to stay up with the Spanish, but we did not have much luck. The walks have been zapping my energy each day therefore making it a ... read more

- Even if a toe LOOKS dead, it probably isn´t and it would hurt more to cut it off - The difference between wheat and barley - It is possible to sleep quite comfortably on a garage floor (when you liberate some garden furniture cushions from the flashy terrace upstairs) - Snoring echos MUCH louder in a church - You shouldn´t just randomly pick a country to come from because the next person you meet will ACTUALLY be from there (Finland, Iceland, Lichtenstein) - How to speak with a much better french accent (in English of course) - Its OK to walk 40+ kilometers if you get to stay in a 3* hotel at the end - To believe the hippy Dutch woman when she tells me I´ve lost weight, cos she´s seen me naked in ... read more

Albergues hay bastantes, y ... read more

Jason and Kirstyn took care of the driving today and we played cards in the back.. it’s a hard life. Our first stop was Penafiel, in the heart of the Ribera Del Duero wine region. We parked the van and had a luxurious picnic in a local park before visiting the wine museum located inside an old hilltop castle which is oddly shaped like a large ship. Everything was in Spanish with no English guide but we managed to have a look around and enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding countryside from our great vantage point on top of the mountain. Our stop for the night was the central town of Burgos where we found an enormous camping ground outside of town. It had everything you could imagine including a pool, stores, bar and restaurant. ... read more
