Departing Madrid
Tres Olivos, Metro station close to KK&MHi everyone. We have arrived safe and sound in Valencia. Hasta pronto Kate, Keith & Millie, hasta Granada. We were so lucky to start our adventure with KK&M who tought us alot of vaulable Spanish skills such as, using the metro, ordering cervezas and raciones (a plate of tapas), and of course helping us with our Spanish! Muchas Gracias!
We picked up the car (VW Golf) in Madrid yesterday and after a slightly hairraising drive through the narrow city streets and peak hour we got onto the highway to Toledo. Thanks Karen (our GPS)!! Richie was wonderful at driving and although a little nervous to start with quickly got used to being on the right side of the road.
We explored Toledo which is a fascinating place and full of history. The Cathedral is breathtaking and we could hear singing from a service happening inside (they wouldn't let us in). It was lots of fun wandering around the tiny streets and seeing what we came across. The Alcazar overlooks the city (see pic).
After lunch in Toledo we hit the road and drove 3.5hrs to Valencia to a pleasant 25 degrees. We made a pit stop at Alarcόn.

View from below to the Alcazar It was a very interesting drive on which we saw hundreds of wind turbines, some very fast drivers and a patchwork of vineyards, red dirt,olive groves and little villages. It was a very barren landscape but beautiful. We passed through Buῆol which is a very industrial town and where they hold La Tomatina. Makes sense they would throw all the tomatoes in an industrial place! We finally arrived in Valencia, checked in a had a little explore last night. There are orange trees everyehwere which are laden with fruit (Valencias we presume!). We've picked one for breakfast (not sure if this is allowed!) so hope it's tasty! 😊
Thanks for all the messages so far, we will reply tonight! Gotta run off for some desayuno (breakfast) then to start exploring Valencia. Ciao for now.
