Another volcanic, very rugged island. Great weather and lots of bananas. If one is impressed by all the banana plantations in Madeira, then they should come to Santa Cruz de La Palma. Everywhere one looks there are banana plants. The island's economy depends on this one product. In terms of size Madeira had a population of 235,000 versus La Palma's population of 85,000

In La Palma there is a story of a young shepherd who asked a young maiden to marry him. She said she would if he could spin around his staff on the edge of the cliff 3 times. He did spin around the edge twice but on the third he fell and died.
