Parked on the coast near Lekeitio
After our quick stop-off in Burgos we were back on the road. We drove north towards Santander then east to Bilbao and along the northern coastline. It was a bit rainy and miserable but the scenery was still impressive. The roads in the north have numerous large tunnels weaving through the mountainous terrain. After winding our way through some treacherous hilltop roads and tiny villages we stopped at a little beach near the town of Lekeitio. Technically camping/ stopping wasn’t allowed but we figured it was unlikely that anyone would be patrolling this remote beach overnight so we pulled up the van and settled in. We decided to crack the cheap 5L bottle (plastic) of wine and play some cards which, of course, was a recipe for disaster and we all woke up feeling decidedly worse for wear! It didn’t help that we were woken by the charming sound of some guy blasting his car horn repeatedly until we got up and moved the van 200m up the road away from the beach and the no camping spot.We slowly dragged ourselves back to the living and then got back on the road. San Sebastian where the beautiful people go to enjoy the sun and surf and it really is a beautiful place with a real beach. It wasn’t quite beach weather but we did enjoy a great lunch before moving on to Pamplona where we parked up in a campsite just out of town which was packed with revellers from the San Fermin festival which by now had been running for a few days.

Too hungover to enjoy the views but the gourmet burgers were spot on.
