Postojna Monday 25th April The caves at Postojna are one of the largest cave systems in Europe. It’s a limestone cave system with more than 20km. of spectacular caverns of stalactites and stalagmites. They are well worth a visit. A couple of people from the hostel where I’m staying in Ljubljana have done all the work in finding out how to get there and back so I cheekily invite myself along. Getting there is actually quite easy from Ljubljana. {Getting to most places in Slovenia is quite easy – it’s a small country with good transport links}. There are regular buses from Ljubljana to Postojna. The journey takes about an hour and then it’s a 20 minute walk to the caves. On the day that we visit the caves there are a lot of visitors. It’s ... read more

I love to ride my bike! Thats all I can say. We left our little abode, turned right and started riding. Fields of corn, sunflowers, creeks and lots or rain clouds. I was just so happy riding on the winding road but i know that Jeff was kvelling to do some heavy off road biking. After about two hours there was a very small sign that I happened to miss (what a suprize) that read: Stanjel 2 km. I looked at Jeff, I looked at the MOUNTAIN. What could I do?- 25 years of marriage I guess it's time to give in so I told Jeff: "only if I get some coffee up at the castle" As a good friend of mine once said. "If you want coffee go to Italy!" Made it up the hill ... read more

16th September Our beautiful campsite was closing today so we had to leave. I was having so much fun playing badminton with my Dad and brothers. Stupid campsite! PE today was running around Lake Bled. There were signs everywhere saying we couldn’t either take bikes nor do wheelies when you were biking - we weren’t sure. So we just had to try and control ourselves on our bikes, it was very difficult. We drove to a place called Postojna which has some caves. We meet some nice Australians at the camp in Bled and they told us of a campsite that was open near the caves so we decided to go. Found the campground in the middle of a forest and it was a bit spooky because there was no one here. Apart from one tent. ... read more

Geo: 45.6805, 14.1221Maeve and I waited for the 10.45 bus, but it never arrived, so we tried to get the 11.15 bus. This driver was not happy to see the dozen of us wanting to get on. He was really cranky. The price was 1920 (he typed it on his calculator), I gave him a 5000 note and only got 2100 change!! I told him that it wasn't correct, he wasn't fussed and didn't seem to know any English. I then indicated that he can have his ticket back and I'll have my 5000 tollar note back, no such luck. I was so pissed off with him. This was when I wish I knew a few words in his language, which was either Croatian or Slovene. He did the same to Meave and has made himself ... read more

These caves are interesting, but if time is short in Slovenia, I'd skip them unless you have a chance to hear a choir perform while visiting.... read more
