Yesterday we left the wonders of Poland to cross into Slovakia again. This actually turned out to be quite a journey. Luckily (or unluckily as it turned out) we didn't have to start this journey for a little while. Chris, our tour leader, told us to meet in the hotel reception at 12:10 to go to the bus station. This meant that we had the whole morning free to explore a bit more of Krakow. My roommate Susan decided to start the morning off with a bit of a speed walk around the walls of the old city. However since my knee has been playing up quite a bit I decided that it probably wasn't the best idea for me to join her on this walk. So I decided to lollop around in bed for a little while longer. After Susie Q returned we headed back into the old town are of Krakow to hunt down some pretzels to have for breakfast and to also buy to eat on the bus jounreys (apparently there were going to be three of them). Somehow the shopping for pretzels turned into shopping for some stuff for Susan who still had some zlotys left, which
then morphed into shopping for a skirt for me in Promod. It is a lovely skort, however I must be honest and admit that it is slightly possible that I didn't really need to purchase it. Although it is the most lovely coral color, which as we know is one of my best colors. Only small problem is that I don't have all that many tops that are going to go very well with it so I am going to have to be on the lookout for a few tops so I can coordinate with it. I can almost hear you sighing right about now Dad (and Dave).
After our gallop around the shops we had to literally trot back to the hotel and only just made it back in time to meet up with the rest of the group to leave for the bus station. The bus trips turned out to be quite an experience. When we got to the bus station we found an absolutely enormous queue for the bus that we wanted to catch. And Chris (our tour leader) told us that you can only buy tickets on the bus - you can't get them beforehand.
So this meant that we didn't get onto that bus. Which was probably quite lucky as it looked as thought it would be rather full. However the bus that we eventually caught actually ended up having a wee incident. We were driving up a massive hill and suddenly there was an enormous bang. It turned out that we had actually blown a tire on the bus. This meant of course that we couldn't drive anymore on this bus and we had to get a new bus called for us. Well of course while we were waiting it started to rain as well. We finally got on the second bus of the day, but we were now running slightly behind schedule. And missed our next bus. Which then meant that we missed our third bus. However after missing all of these buses we only arrived at our destination 1 hour late. We are staying in the most delightful place called Tatranska Lomnica. It is gorgeous up in the Tatras mountains of Slovakia.
Today we went for a massive hike up in the mountains. We were a little worried about what the weather was going to do as there were some
pretty big black clouds up in the sky. However we were dead lucky and the weather held out for us for the entire hike. And the hike was amazing. The scenery was spectacular (check out the photos.) We hiked for about 4 hours and parts of the track were a little bit tricky for people with rather dodgy knees (like me). But it was amazing. A fantastic hike. We are now sitting outside our hotel having some champange, waiting for a BBQ grilled dinner to be cooked for us.
