I made it to Irkutsk!

The ride from Moscow was about 80 hours long...that's 4 nights and 3 days in a tiny cabin with 2 strange Russian men who smelled increasingly worse as time went on. Not that I don't smell like shit right now... =P

Let's see... How to sum up the past few days... Sleep, wake up, eat potatoes that we bought from babushkas on the platforms, chat with random people on the train, sleep, wake, eat potatoes, chat, sleep wake up, eat potatoes... You get the point. It actually went by incredibly quickly, and I've gotten used to that un-showered feeling of layers of dried sweat. Heh... For more detailed info on the train (I'm too lazy right now to write more!), check out Lauren's blog:

We are headed to Lake Baikal this afternoon. Baikal is the deepest lake in the world (and will eventually become an ocean due to some crazy shifting plates or something-or-other) and is filled with interesting species of fish that either burn like a torch (because they are covered with so much fat) or explode when they come to the surface (because they usually live so far down in the water). Bet you wish you were here, huh? =)

Off to catch a boat...

Lots of love,

Jenny

Jenny, what are your plans? I am living in korea right now and will soon be travelling to mongolia. Will you be anywhere nearby in early august. I'm working up the momentum to write a Tanzania group email so I will pass on my info later. It's nice to hear you are having good adventures...and eating lots of potatoes. Cheers, Jesse

Sorry we missed you
Sorry we missed you at the Stratosphere in Irkutsk. We walked in late all sweaty and dirty in t-shirts and shorts, saw a line of scantily-clad women going through metal detectors surrounded by men in fatigues, and heard no sounds of bowling. So we ran away! We are having a great time in Ulan Ude with the giant Lenin head (it's actually a really nice walking town!) and hope to catch up with you in Naddam for some mutton!
