I'm taking a break from Russian langauge lessons. Later this afternoon Sveta, her friend Anna, and I will go to a movie. Something to do with Paris. There's a Bergman retrospective next week that I'm looking forward to checking out. Perm has a great second run theater.

So here are mess of photos. My greatest regret is that I forgot my Pilgrim's hat.

Sveta and I arrived without a place to sleep. Like most Russians, we decided to purchase a fold out sofa. sofas that can as beds are really useful in small apartments and were a staple of the Soviet era

We drink enormous amounts of tea. This scene is not truly typical as there is no bread or sausage in sight.

Sveta tells me the man in the tricornor hat founded Perm. He and his friend were sent out by Peter the Great to exploit the Urals. Sort of like a Russian Lewis and Clark. Their project, by most accounts, has been pretty successful.
