Kaluga is situated on the banks of Oka 160 km away from Moscow. Kaluga is first and foremost famous due to Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, the outstanding inventor and theorist of cosmonautics, who lived there from 1892 till 1935. Nowadays Kaluga is a major transport hub, one of the scientific, cultural, economic and spiritual centres of the Central Federal District of Russia. And it has a lot of sights! My train from Yanaul to Moscow arrived in the morning at 5.38. I have spent three days in Moscow with my wife at her friends’ place; we stayed in the Kommunarka settlement just outside the MKAD, visited the Vorobyovy Gory viewing platform, where nothing could be seen due to the fog, and walked a little along the embankment), then I spent nine days in my hometown. After months of only going outside when absolutely necessary the weather starts to relax. The temperatures drop from the minus twenties to the minus teens. Wow, what a weekend I had! It is a good thing I got over my cold because there was no resting this past weekend and with so much stuff to do here in the Moscow and Kaluga regions, I do not need to fly anywhere else. On Wednesday, Freddie called me to see if I wanted to go to the Moscow Air Show on Saturday. I had actually been thinking about it, but did not want to venture it on my own as I was not that interested in it, but when he offered, I accepted. I told him I would schedule my driver and he said that was not necessary as his company was scheduling buses and we could all go on their company bus, which why he needed to know on Wednesday. This past weekend, I know my blogs are not in order, I went to Kaluga with Dima. We used my driver, but what was funny, Dima did not know how to get to Lena's (his girlfriend) flat so we he had Misha take us to the train station where we got on a bus because he knew which bus and which stop...lol I found it funny that I pay my driver to sit at the train station while we pay to get on a public bus to get around Kaluga. The other part that was funny. Lena goes to school there so I really thought she was going to be our tour guide, which she was, all the way to the mall where we shopped for the afternoon. Not exactly what I had in mind when ... read more
